In 1974, then-publisher of Street Rodder and Street Chopper magazines, Tom McMullen, saw a growing trend in custom vans and pickups cruising Southern California and making the scene at hot rod shows. Using the popular saying "Keep on Truckin'" as a basis, Truckin’ magazine was created. In 1975, the first issue went on sale at newsstands for $1.00 under the TRM Publications (which stood for Tom and Rose McMullen) family of auto magazines. From 1975 to May 1995, Truckin’ was published by TRM before being sold off to a larger media group after Tom and his wife died when their Rockwell Commander 112 crashed into a field in Oklahoma. The title changed hands a few more times over the years before going digital and finally ceasing in 2019.

Founded in 1957, Holman-Moody was for years the official racing contractor for Ford as they race prepped GT40s, A/FX Mustangs, Cobras, Falcons, and various stock cars for NASCAR, NHRA and numerous other auto racing series from their shop in Charlotte, North Carolina. They prepared race cars that were driven by some of the best drivers in the world and would eventually transition from racing team support to an all out racing factory. Shelley's Auto Parts was an old school speed shop located in the Mission Hills area of San Fernando Valley. From the mid-sixties until the early '80s, they stocked a wealth of go fast goodies that any hot rodder or muscle car aficionado might need to make their ride go fast or just look like it.

Jerry Jardine started Jardine Header Co. humbly in 1958 from his parent’s back yard in Pasadena, California. He was working at Pearly’s Muffler Shop prior to this and building some custom headers. Word traveled and a demand for more and as more header work followed, he set up shop not far from home in Garden Grove. Jerry studied the European sports car headers of the day and adapted the engineering to American cars with great success. The ’58 348 Impala that he owned was his original testbed and the first part number. Up until this time headers were custom-built on your car, so Jardine was the first (or at least one of) to produce a true bolt-on header in a box. In 1976 a line of trucks and vans dubbed ‘Adult Toys’ was launched. Don’t be gross, these ‘Adult Toys’ were a series of factory vehicles that included the Street Van, which rolled off the assembly line outlandishly customized in what would become a staple of late '70s automotive culture – custom mag wheels, wild paint schemes, and plenty of shag carpeting among others. Despite the rich host of custom options the Street Van rolled off the line with, the true intention was for it to serve as an enticing platform for even more customization. To get buyers headed in the right direction, every Street Van came with a customization kit that included detailed instructions and plans to further style their van to their individual tastes.

Maloney's Racing Slicks was a top independent tire manufacturer in the 60s. They specialized in slicks for drag racing and early NASCAR as well as streetable 'cheater slicks,' all from their small facility right on Anaheim Boulevard in Southern California.

Depending on whom you ask, ‘street racing’ used to simply mean drag racing, as in on a drag strip in the early days. Decades later, it literally means racing in the streets, but whatever your take is, be careful out there and give ’em absolute hell!
