Description: The Tasmanian devil is a carnivorous marsupial. It was formerly present across mainland Australia, but became extinct there around 3,500 years ago; it is now confined to the island of Tasmania. The size of a small dog, the Tasmanian devil became the largest carnivorous marsupial in the world following the extinction of the thylacine in 1936.
Description: Upset a Tassie Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) and they will show their teeth and make an horrendous growling sound - hence their name. Tasmanian Devils are the largest surviving carnivorous marsupials in the world. The size of a small dog, weighing up to 14kg (26 pounds), about 30cm (11.8 inches) tall and 76cm (30inches) in length from nose to tail. They have one of the most powerful bites of any mammal, for their size.
Description: The Tasmanian Tiger, sadly extinct, was a large marsupial predator, who carried their young in a pouch. I hope that one day, we may see them in the flesh again, but we are lucky to have it’s image.

In the wild it is limited to Tasmania although in the past was found on the Australian mainland. Currently it is endangered by the usual factors but also by a facial tumour disease. This, a kind of cancer, is spread by them biting each other.
