An original minimal tribute design to a classic.

The Starck Club was an instant '80s temple of hedonism after opening its doors in 1984 and quickly became the stuff of legend that would be spoken of for decades. In an abandoned concrete warehouse in the old part of Dallas, out past some forgotten railroad tracks, the cutting edge, raw-concrete venue instantly became an unlikely epicenter for 1980s counterculture. The interiors spared no expense: polished black terrazzo floors, shimmering gauze drapes, and a grand staircase that led to a sunken dance floor. It was a celebrity magnet, a haven for the LGBTQ community, the birthplace of America’s electronic dance music culture, but also ground zero for ecstasy, which back then was legal in the state of Texas and sold over the bar.

Following Chicago's Disco Demolition Night in 1979, disco music's mainstream popularity fell into decline. In the early '80s, fewer and fewer disco records were being released, but the genre remained popular in some Chicago nightclubs and on at least one radio station, WBMX-FM. In this era, Chicago radio jocks played various styles of dance music, including older disco records, newer Italo disco, electro, EBM tracks, B-boy hip hop music as well as electronic pop music. Some of these DJs also made and played their own edits of their favorite songs on reel-to-reel tape, focusing on the portions of songs that worked well on the dancefloor.

LSD

I worked in the iconic Hacienda (FAC51) for several years in the early 90's. The industrial stripes and colours are synonymous to that era. In the 90's there was no cooler and more hip place than Manchester (or so it felt at the time!). 13 stripes has a hidden meaning: 13th letter of the alphabet - M (meaning marijuana). The number 13 featured a lot around 1960's Manchester. Not that I condone the use of marijuana, it is subtle way to link these 2 important eras into one design. ROCK.

Kraftwerk (German: [ˈkʁaftvɛɐ̯k], lit. "power station") are a German band formed in Düsseldorf in 1969 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. Widely considered innovators and pioneers of electronic music, Kraftwerk were among the first successful acts to popularize the genre. The group began as part of West Germany's experimental krautrock scene in the early 1970s before fully embracing electronic instrumentation, including synthesizers, drum machines, and vocoders. Wolfgang Flür joined the band in 1974 and Karl Bartos in 1975, expanding the band to a quartet.
