Description: Vintage Thomas A. Edison Phonograph patent drawing from 1891. This patent is just one of the more than a thousand patents Edison was granted for his inventions. The phonograph was developed as a result of Thomas Edison's work on two other inventions, the telegraph and the telephone. In 1877, Edison was working on a machine that would transcribe telegraphic messages through indentations on paper tape, which could later be sent over the telegraph repeatedly.
Description: The battle between Tesla and Edison was more than just a fight over technology. It was a battle of ideas, a clash of visions for the future. Edison's direct current represented the old obsolete and greedy way of generating power. Tesla's rebellious alternating current represented a new way of thinking about electricity, a more efficient and sustainable way to power our world.

Description: Nikola Tesla was an engineer and scientist known for designing the alternating-current (AC) electric system, which is the predominant electrical system used across the world today. He also created the Tesla Coil which is still used in radio technology. Born in modern-day Croatia, Tesla came to the United States in 1884 and briefly worked with Thomas Edison before the two parted ways. He sold several patent rights, including those to his AC machinery, to George Westinghouse. In 2003, a group of engineers founded Tesla Motors, a car company named after Tesla dedicated to building the first fully electric-powered car by entrepreneur and engineer Elon Musk who is also the founder of SpaceX.
