The Las Tapestries

Pioneer Club Las Vegas was a casino that opened in 1942 and was located in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, at 25 East Fremont Street. It ceased operating as a casino in 1995, the same year the Fremont Street Experience was completed.

Opened in 1950, the casino was built on the grounds of the Last Frontier Village of the Hotel Last Frontier, and was originally named the Golden Slipper Saloon and Gambling Hall. The owner originally wanted to call it the Silver Slipper, but there already was an existing establishment with that name. The problem was solved when that small operation was purchased and closed, and the Golden Slipper became the Silver Slipper. The casino was known for its rotating slipper that sat atop the casino.On April 30, 1968, the Silver Slipper was purchased by businessman Howard Hughes in his famous spending spree of buying Vegas properties, which included the Frontier next door.

The California Club operated from 1958 to 1973. Phil Long took over operation of the casino located at the corner of First and Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, 1958.[1] The locals casino catered to local gamblers. It was owned and operated by Phil Long and partner George Milford and was a casino only without any hotel rooms. The California Club was sold to Steve Wynn in 1973. The California Club was combined into the Golden Nugget shortly after the purchase

the Las Vegas Gold Key, was located at 3053 Las Vegas Blvd. Opened in 1960. Closed in 1990. Demolished during the Desert Inn Road Super Arterial project It was located across from the Stardust, by the Desert Inn and the Flame Restaurant, on the site of what is now the Gold Key Shops. It had 100 rooms, was 3 stories tall with a glass elevator, heated pool, color TV in every room, coffee shop, drug store, steak house and cocktail lounge.

"Casino Center" was a downtown branding effort that came and went in the 60s. 2nd Street was renamed "Casino Center Blvd" in the middle of this campaign. It was the first but not the last time downtown competed with the Strip for visitors. They also built a billboard sign along I-15 approaching Las Vegas, 1967 that read Downtown Casino Center → 10 Minutes. The name change has stood the test of time, as for that "Downtown Casino Center" sign, it was built by the same team who made the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. They first placed it near the site of the present-day Cosmo, then later moved it out to the highway. Unfortunately its now long gone.

located at 230 Fremont Street, Las Vegas, Nevada from 1972 to 1975 The Red Garter gave away a unique souvenir in the form of a ‘Red Garter”.

On May 6, 1950 Benny Binion opened the Westerner. It was just west of the Pioneer Club on the site of the former Las Vegas Club which had moved down Fremont Street. In 1962 the Westerner became Club Bingo.

The Park was a 406-room hotel and casino located on 200 North Main Street near Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. The hotel originally opened in 1978 as the Holiday International and became the Park in 1987 after three years of the hotel being closed due to a hotel strike. The hotel was owned by Japanese investor Katsuki Manabe. It later closed in 1990 after being bought by Bob Snow to become Main Street Station.

The Castaways was a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It began in the 1930s, as a small motel called Mountain View. It became the San Souci in 1939, and underwent several ownership changes in its early years. Reopened as the Polynesian-themed Castaways on September 1, 1963. The Castaways closed on July 20, 1987 to make way for the future Mirage--also soon to go away.

Marcos Maidana is a retired Argentine professional boxer known for his punching power and aggressive fighting style. He was a two-weight world champion, having held the WBA super lightweight title from 2010 to 2011, and the WBA welterweight title from 2013 to 2014. Maidana was admired for his toughness and fearlessness in the ring, and he faced some of the biggest names in the sport during his career.

Sy’s “Casino of Fun” was a "grind joint" located in the Las Vegas Plaza Shopping Center (then called Fashion Square) located directly across from Stardust. The skyline of the Las Vegas Strip has been dominated by megaresorts for the past couple of decades. But in the '60s and '70s, you'd find lots of what were called "grind joints" -- places like Foxy's Firehouse and Little Caesars that used gimmicks to lure customers in. Mr. Sy's was open from 1962-1980, slots only at 3049 Las Vegas Blvd. Mr. Sy's distributed "funbooks" at locations frequented by tourists. A funbook would be filled with coupons which acted as incentives to get people in the door. You might find a coupon for a free bowl of Irish Stew, free match play on a bet, a postcard..

The Riviera opened on April 20, 1955, as the first high-rise at 9 stories, and the ninth resort on the Las Vegas Strip. The Riviera Hotel was one of the oldest and well-known casino resort in Las Vegas Strip. It stopped operating in May 2015 after being bought by The Las Vegas Convention and visitors Authority which scheduled to implode the property as part of the billion-dollar project of expanding the Las Vegas Convention Center.
