Description: In Denmark we bring out our nisse for the Jule season and give them a yummy treats to stop them from pranking us. They have a long tradition of living with people and taking care of their well being if one treats them well. So here you have a nisse of your own to care about you - just offer some sweet treats from time to time ;-)!
Description: Tomten (sometimes called Nisse) hasn’t always been the Swedish Santa (replacing the Yule Goat); actually originating as a mythical creature in Scandinavian lore that played a role more similar to a “house gnome.” The tomten would secretly live in, or under, a house and protect the children and animals from evil or misfortune. Sometimes a tomten would even help with chores or farm work. Despite being tiny, they were also known to have a temper, playing tricks or killing livestock if offended by rudeness.
Description: Jenny Nystrom created the image of the tomten or mischievous spirits and gnomes who protected the Swedish farmstead and buildings. They also represented Father Christmas who delivered children’s presents on Christmas eve. This image depicts six tomte or elves around a campfire with a big pot cooking over flames.
