Description: Today, the brain has submitted a vacation request, and it deserves approval. No calculations, decisions, complicated conversations, strategic planning, or unnecessary attempts to remember why you walked into a room. This is a day for operating on the simplest possible settings: snacks, comfortable clothes, unlimited entertainment, and staring into the distance like a house cat contemplating absolutely nothing. Any task requiring more than two consecutive thoughts should be considered an unreasonable demand. If someone asks a difficult question, the appropriate response is a thoughtful silence followed by a subject change. Productivity can wait until tomorrow; today is reserved for letting the mental machinery cool down.

Description: There comes a specific moment when guessing, overthinking, and pretending to know what’s going on simply won’t cut it anymore. Something has to be figured out, and apparently, the brain has been selected for the job. The process may involve staring at nothing for several minutes, making a confident face, forgetting the original question, and suddenly remembering something completely unrelated from 2017. Results may vary. There’s also a strong possibility that the first brilliant idea will arrive five minutes after it’s no longer needed. Still, every great thought has to start somewhere, even if that somewhere is a confused person staring at the ceiling, waiting for the answer to automatically appear—which, inconveniently, it probably won’t.

Description: Sometimes people expect a quick answer, a great conclusion, a clever decision, or some sign that you have everything figured out. That can be a lot to ask when your brain is currently doing absolutely nothing useful. You may stare at the situation for a moment, make a guess, change your mind, and then decide that guessing again would probably make things worse. The funny part is that everyone else seems to think there should be an obvious answer. Maybe there is. It just has not arrived yet. So you keep going, hoping that the right thought will show up at a convenient time. Until then, there is no point pretending everything is perfectly organized. We are working with what we have. The situation can probably survive without a perfect answer.
