The 2nd Battalion of the 11th Artillery Regiment ("Dragon Artillery") was a towed 155mm Howitzer Battalion at Dau Tieng which saw service first as part of II Field Force Vietnam Artillery and later with Task Force Oregon. It was deploued to Duc Pho on 19 April 1967, Bien Hoa in January 1968 and on 8 March 1968 to I CTZ and 23rd Artillery Group's control at Gia Le. On 10 June 1968 it was assigned to 101st Airborne Division.

The 81st Field Artillery Regiment is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army. 1st Battalion, 81st Field Artillery Regiment. The 1st Missile Battalion, 81st Artillery was formed at Fort Sill in 1963 and deployed to McCully Barracks in Wackernheim, West Germany under the 56th Field Artillery Group. The battalion moved to Wiley Barracks, Neu-Ulm in 1968 and was redesignated the 1st Battalion, 81st Field Artillery Regiment effective 1 September 1971. It was initially equipped with eight Pershing 1 missiles and in 1969 replaced these with 36 Pershing 1a missiles. Service Battery was inactivated and reflagged as B Company, 55th Maintenance Battalion in 1982.

The 1st Cavalry Division next fought in the Vietnam War. No longer a conventional infantry unit, the division had become an air assault division as the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), commonly referred to as the 1st Air Cavalry Division. The use of helicopters on such large scale as troop carriers, cargo lift ships, medevacs, and as aerial rocket artillery, was never before implemented, but by doing so it freed the infantry from the tyranny of terrain to attack the enemy at the time and place of its choosing. In 1965, colors and subordinate unit designations of the 1st Cavalry Division were transferred from Korea to Fort Benning, Georgia, where they were used to reflag the existing 11th Air Assault Division (Test) into 1st Cavalry Divisio

On 1 July 1965, the unit was recognized and redesignated as Bravo Company, 227th Aviation Battalion. Concurrently, it was relieved from assignment to the 11th Air Assault Division and assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division. The unit served with great distinction for the next six years in Vietnam, where it was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (2 awards), the Valorous Unit Award (3 awards), the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm (3 awards) and the Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, First Class.
