After merging with Star Transfer Line in 1932, the company relocated to Grand Rapids, solidifying its presence in the Midwest and Northeast.Through steady expansion, Interstate Motor Freight System became a powerhouse, ranking as the 10th largest trucking company by 1980, with 3,500 employees and extensive route services. However, the deregulation of the trucking industry in the 1980s brought significant challenges. By 1983, Interstate was losing $20 million annually, leading to bankruptcy and eventual liquidation in 1984, marking the end of a 52-year legacy in freight transportation.
