Many enjoy strolling along Broadway with its many quaint shops and window shopping.

The Via San Giovanni in San Gimignano, Tuscany looking towards the Piazza della Cisterna on a relatively quiet September afternoon. The narrow medieval street is the main pedestrian street from the gate to the central square and Duomo of the town and is home to many interesting shops, restaurants and gelaterie.

Stratford-upon-Avon is a mecca for tourists from around the world draw to view the town that was the birth-place and home of William Shakespeare. This project, part of my WINDOW SHOPPING SERIES, was to look for new, interesting and creative images from Stratford-upon-Avon that are perhaps missed by most tourists.

New cities are planned with integrated public transport networks and environmentally beneficial and healthy mode of transport in purpose built and designed cycle-ways and pedestrian walk-ways.

Tucked away in the south of France, in a street that smells of dust and lavender and soap is a little shop, a perfect little shop, selling chocolate and confectionary, scenting the entrance with sweetness, enticing us, bewitching us. As the sacred hour of lunch approaches, the streets clear, leaving me alone in the strong heat. I want to capture the shadow and the light, to immortalize it. This work is rich in colour and mood, seeped in mystery too. A perfect gift, a wonderful souvenir of France.

The Fourth plinth is the northwest plinth in Trafalgar Square in central London. It was originally intended to hold an equestrian statue of William IV; but is used as a short-term art space. Works are commissioned and are usually outrageous and controversial. Inspiration was the ‘Gift Horse’. I was a skeletal, riderless horse in bronze and sat on the 4th plinth in 2005.

Lost or forgotten due to having occurred or existed so far in the past. For all that we've learned about these ancient now extinct creatures and special places with once-upon-a-time hugely important meaning, most of their purpose and significance has been lost in the mists of time. Where are the DODO now? EXACTLY!

The Majorelle Garden is a two and half acre botanical garden and artist's landscape garden in Marrakech, Morocco. It was created by the French Orientalist artist, Jacques Majorelle over almost forty years, starting in 1923, and features a Cubist villa designed by the French architect, Paul Sinoir in the 1930’s.

When my children were small I was asked to build a play house in our back garden. I was involved in a considerable construction project at the time and had access to off-cuts of timber. The simple concept grew on size and complexity; windows with curtains, height so children could stand inside with ease. This "wendy house" was much loved and played with for years , but as the children grew into teens the once cherished house was neglected. One of my children asked me to get rid of it and try as I may it was too big to go round the side of the house and being solidly built in-situ was now a problem to dispose of. The only realistic solution was to burn it in the garden and photograph the event. Again nothing goes to plan. Heat generate...

On 21 October 1805, the Royal Navy clashed with the Combined French and Spanish fleet at Cape Trafalgar, off the coast of Spain. The victory had massive repercussions for Napoleon's France and the future of the shape of Europe for centuries to come. An historic event commemorated in central London by Nelson Column in Trafalgar Square. Much visited by millions of tourists each year.

I was only in Chicago a few hours having arrived from Des Moines by Greyhound, an experience in its own right. I collected as many individual shots as I could hoping that they would come in handy. I never through anything away. Standing on a street corner, waiting to cross, I noticed a man-hole in the street in front of me with information about what was buried below. A whole unseen world laying beneath our feet. This got me thinking as researched what was literally beneath my feet. Mass transit rail systems, water , gas, electric, internet, sewers etc. The list seemed endless. The mission was to try and portray this under-ground world in the context of the well know and more easily observable above group world. Chicago was the portal...

The waters of the Greek islands are amazingly clear allowing views deep into the waters. In shallows the sea bed can be seen with hints of life below. The calmness is stirred by the inter-island ferry services that are the life-blood of these islands. Prime viewing position at the stern of the Blue Star Ferry as it leaves Santorini bound for Nexus. No one image can fully capture the movement, colour variations of this brief phase on the sea crossing which changes once deep-water is encountered. The set of 8 shown forms a carefully crafted panel.

When taking this "straight shot" of a male youth sheepishly using a spray can to daub the popular skate board area on the South Bank, London I felt it needed a strong frame as though boxing the image "in". This frame work came from shots taken earlier in the day at the Tate Modern gallery, housed as it is, inside a redundant power-station.

The classical guitar is a member of the guitar family used in classical music. It is an acoustic wooden guitar with strings made of gut or nylon, rather than the metal strings used in acoustic and electric guitars. Spanish guitar shape is distinctive. It is regularly used by cubist artists as well as classical art such as Paul Gauguin. The Old Guitarist is an oil painting by Pablo Picasso created late 1903 – early 1904, painted before is search for fame led to the recognizable PICASSO style.

Part of my Barcelona and Gaudi series. The Cyclist and skeleton was part of street theater outside Gaudi's House and it seemed "interesting" to install these actors as static objects in Gaudi's bathroom. The skyline is made up of well known landmarks in the city including the Olympic Tower.

The silhouette of Chaplin is small in the frame and dwarfed by the much larger and complex mural - but the distinctive pose of the great silent actor, still holds the viewer eye. When a boy, I did see Charlie Chaplin in his home in Switzerland. He was in his 90's then, but nice to be able to tell the children that I saw him .... to which the reply is usually ... "who"!

Istanbul is a world famous city straddling EUROPE an ASIA. Its Old City reflects cultural influences of the many empires that once ruled here. In the Sultanahmet district, the open-air, Roman-era Hippodrome was for centuries the site of chariot races, and Egyptian obelisks also remain. The iconic Byzantine Hagia Sophia features a soaring 6th-century dome and rare Christian mosaics. it has a population of over 15 million people. It is a WORKING CITY

FRESH Food could be sourced with better health benefits, engineering and production was more efficient and the nation prospered. But at a stroke of a politician's pen, the steam era ended abruptly to make way for "progress" and the diesel age. STEAM was sidelined and forgotten. Coal was a hazard to the Ozone layer so was largely banned and mines closed. But what happens when the oil runs out? hummm... maybe reopen coal mines and re-engineer modern steam transport? I wonder!
