Yorkshire Dales Tapestries

A typical view in the Yorkshire Dales, one of England's finest national parks. I decided to make this a sepia one as I think monochrome makes it easier to focus on the tonal qualities and subject matter, as well as the composition of the image, in a way that colour doesn't. Taken on the road from Aysgarth to Burnsall, near Kettlewell, if I remember correctly.

The Yorkshire Dales, an area of outstanding natural beauty, lies covered in a blanket of snow. Three bare trees in the foreground provide an image of the starkness of winter and the drystone wall leads the eye out across the beautiful and enticing fells.

Yorkshire Dales Dilemma The dilemma here is which way to walk as each way will have an amazing view to take in. The Yorkshire Dales are an upland area of the Pennines in England. Most of the area is in the county of North Yorkshire, but it extends into Cumbria and a small part of Lancashire. It was historically entirely within Yorkshire. The majority of the Dales are part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, created in 1954. The exception is the area around Nidderdale, which forms the separate Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. By Paul Thompson Photography

Stone barns and dry stone walls stretch out across this Summer landscape in Swaledale near Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales. Drystone walls have been a feature of the Yorkshire Dales for hundreds of years and this wall leading to the wildflower meadows in Muker is probably an old example, surrounded by wildflowers the path leads to a small gap in the stone wall through which the blooming wildflower meadows await.

Bolton Abbey is an estate in Wharfedale in North Yorkshire, England, which takes its name from the ruins of the 12th-century Augustinian monastery—now generally known as Bolton Priory. Nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales on the banks of the River Wharfe, Bolton Abbey is Yorkshire’s best day out.

It is one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, the other two being Whernside and Pen-y-ghent. Ingleborough is frequently climbed as part of the Three Peaks Challenge, which is a 24-mile (38-km) circular challenge walk starting and finishing in Horton in Ribblesdale. If done anti-clockwise Ingleborough is the last hill climbed, and ascent is from Chapel-le-Dale.

485m up in Wharfedale, Simon's Seat can reached by a rewarding walk from nearby Bolton Abbey. It offers views across to Skipton. he climb is well worth it as you walk through the scenic valley of desolation on to Barden Fell. At the highest point you reach Simon's Seat. It is a place that offers splendid views of the surrounding area on a clear day. After taking lunch here you can then look forward to descending to Parceval Hall and magnificent Troller's Gill. This is followed by a pleasant walk over to Appletreewick before continuing along the banks of the River Wharfe. Yorkshire Dales, Dead Tree This stunning black and white photograph was taken in one of our favourite places for a long weekend away, or even longer. This is called God's country for a reason, as you can see. The clouds were dancing on this particular day and made for a dramatic image made all the better by the monochrome conversion. This tree is no longer here in Carperby village and that is a huge shame for us photographers as it makes for the perfect focal point.
