[104views 7/9/14] Newcastle, Australia The lighthouse was constructed in 1858 on what was originally an island. A breakwater complete with railway lines was built later to connect it to the mainland (see this site for more of the history). The rail lines are now almost wholly covered by sand. However, this 1925 shot shows how the line and the island/headland used to look.
