One of the simplest, yet most effective solutions besides tackling at point source is to keep the ecosystem in balance by implementing a strict fisheries management protocol. Abundant populations of both algal and coral grazers are needed to be able to transport coral sand and reduce algal smothering of the reef in times of high nutrient load and strong sunlight. It could be 'total carnage' for the reefs of Borneo if pelagic fish populations run amuck...!...
