The 526th Armored Infantry Battalion World War II Constituted in Army of United States 26 February 1943 as 526th Armored Infantry Battalion. Activated 20 March 1943 at Fort Knox. Ky. Inactivated 25 November 1945 in European Theater. Activated 1 August 1946 at Fort Knox, Ky. Inactivated 12 April 1948 at Fort Knox. (Company A activated 2 June 1948 at Fort Knox. ) The 526th AIB was separated from the 9th tank group in France, August 1944 and was assigned to the 12th Army Group HDQ under command of Gen. Omar Bradley, "C" Company became a security unit for Gen. Bradley in Luxembourg.
