Altadena Pillows
Description: Altadena is an unincorporated community located in the foothills and flats beneath the San Gabriel Mountains in the San Gabriel Valley. I explored and mapped it in 2012 for my series, "California Fool's Gold." https://ericbrightwell.com/2012/07/17/california-fools-gold-exploring-altadena-the-community-of-the-deodars-2/
Description: Altadena will rise again. FIREWEED germinates quickly, providing nutrients and stabilizing the soil in the wake of a wildfire. MOREL MUSHROOMS are known to proliferate in areas recovering from a forest fire BANKSIA can only open and release their seeds after they have been heated by a fire. COFFEEBERRY once exposed to high heat, crack open and release their seeds, allowing for successful germination in the post-fire environment. PYGMY CYPRESS The seeds of this tree are dispersed following a fire, taking advantage of the gaps in the canopy created by the blaze. Proceeds for this design will go towards the gofundmes of the Black Families on the google doc.
