And Peggy Pillows
Description: Despite her bubbly and naive showing on Broadway, the real Peggy was both brave and quick witted. When raiders broke into the house of her father, an army general, the three sisters fled upstairs, only to realize that young Philip and his baby cousin had been left downstairs. Peggy left her pregnant sisters to fetch them, and came face to face with the raiders who demanded to know where the elder Philip Schuyler was. She told them the Schuylers had already left to warn the town. Fearing for their lives, the raiders fled, but not before one threw a tomahawk at Peggy as she retreated up the stairs with the baby in her arms. It hit the bannister, and she--and her family--escaped without injury.
