One of the most visited places in Bangkok is the Wat Arun temple complex, which consists of the five magnificent prang structures and the various buildings. This image, captured on a wonderfully clear, almost cloudless day, shows the multi-tiered gable ends of one of the buildings. I must say that I was really drawn to those gable ends, they are so ornate. While this kind of rooftop embellishment is common on many buildings throughout Southeast Asia, this one was particularly fine.

I must say that I was really drawn to those gable ends, they are so ornate. While this kind of rooftop embellishment is common on many buildings throughout Southeast Asia, these were particularly fine.

One of the most visited places in Bangkok is the Wat Arun temple complex, of which the central prang there is perhaps the most visually extraordinary structure. At about 70–80 metres tall, it dominates the site. The prang is encrusted with brightly coloured porcelain fragments and seashells, all arranged in the most intricate patterns. This image, captured on a wonderfully clear, cloudless day, shows a three-headed elephant that sits in a portal about two-thirds up the side of the prang. There's actually four of these elephants arranged around the prang.

The prangs are encrusted with brightly coloured porcelain fragments and seashells, all arranged in the most intricate patterns. This image, captured on a wonderfully clear, cloudless day, is of one of the four smaller prangs, and shows two of the four horsemen that adorn its sides, sitting in portals, which appear to be guarding the prang.

This image shows the principle prang, the tallest of five, at the Wat Arun temple site in Bangkok. The structure is incredibly ornate, being encrusted with pieces of porcelain and sea shells to create remarkable, repeating patterns over its surfaces. Each tier in the construction has its own pattern. The principle prang is tall, being about 70 metres. I was particularly drawn to the remarkable architectural style of the prang, with an almost Eiffel Tower like profile, with an ever steepening curve as it rises to the top. It was truly stunning to behold, and when set against the deep, deep blue sky—wow!

Around the base of the central prang (spire) at Wat Arun in Bangkok, Thailand, are perhaps fifty, maybe more, of these porcelain encrusted soldiers. The patterning on the prang is made up layers with the soldiers as one of those layers. who then appear to be holding up the next layer. While each soldier appears the same as its neighbour, there are subtle differences from one to the other. The prang is a remarkable testament to the power of faith and stunning to behold.
