The green-billed malkoha (Phaenicophaeus tristis) is a species of non-parasitic cuckoo found throughout Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The birds are waxy bluish black with a long graduated tail with white tips to the tail feathers. The bill is prominent and curved. These birds are found in dry scrub and thin forests. Green-billed malkoha is about 50–60 cm centimetres long and weighs 100–128 g. It often has a clear white boarder to the red face patch salty grey on the face and neck. Adult green-billed malkoha has dark grey with green gloss above, oily green wings. A small and slender cuckoo, far more often heard than seen; the male's accelerating song, which decreases in volume as it progresses, is composed of a few whistled long notes followed by shorter, breathy notes. Adult male and typical (non-hepatic) female show orange belly, gray head, and brown back and tail. A 'spiny seahorse' - Hippocampus histrix - slowly and carefully plays within a wonderful watery playground ~ snacking on zooplankton as he moves. Within the seahorse family it is the male who becomes pregnant. This particular young male has very good reason to be cautious. His delicate 'white bony body' covered by a thin layer of skin ~ under close examination reveals that he indeed is pregnant. Eggs can be seen which have been deposited by the female into his tail ~ which he then fertilises. Towards the dorsal side of his thorax ~ more eggs can be seen moving towards the abdominal brooding pouch where they will pack for growth imbibed with nutrients.
