Terror of the roads, raiders of farms and banks - bushrangers were viewed in equal parts as villains and heroes by many. This design apes the iconic Ralph Lauren Polo logo, but instead of a polo player it is a bushranging brigand.

The most renowned of Australia's bushrangers, Ned Kelly has become a folk hero to many for his anti-authority stance. Known for his suit of home-made iron armour that he wore during the Glenrowan siege with its distinct cylindrical helmet, he is one of the most recognised figures in Australian history.

In the 1800s Australia was home to a unique brand of outlaws called "bushrangers". Robbing travellers on the highways and also getting caught up in crimes ranging from arson to murder, bushrangers were a diverse collection of characters who often wore brightly coloured crimean shirts, moleskin trousers and cabbage tree hats creating a distinctive look.

Steve Hart was a jockey and larrikin who threw away a respectable life to take up arms with his mate Dan Kelly as a bushranger. Aggressive and impulsive, Steve was effectively the gang's attack dog, helping Ned to persuade his victims into cooperating.

Master of the bluff, Harry Power was a bushranger with a proud record of never shedding blood. He frequently baffled authorities with his ability to traverse vast distances between robberies and is known as Ned Kelly's tutor in bushranging. Power disappeared mysteriously in the 1890s but it is believed he died in 1891 though some believe he survived long after that.

Matthew Brady was one of the first major bushrangers in Australian history and led a moderately successful gang in Tasmania in the early 1800s. He earned a reputation as a gentleman bushranger through his courteous behaviour in spite of his criminality, but still found himself at the end of a rope for murder alongside cannibal and baby-killer Mike Jeffries (much to his chagrin).

He was eventually gunned down by a police constable as he tried to cross a creek on foot.

Self-proclaimed "Prince of Tobeymen", Frank Gardiner was a kind of godfather of bushranging. Gardiner introduced the world to Johnny Gilbert and Ben Hall as well as pulling of one of history's largest gold robberies at Eugowra Rocks. His life was full of adventure and misfortune.

One of the most popular highwaymen of the earlier half of the 19th century, William Westwood arrived in Australia as a teenager and soon became one of the most renowned highwayman in Australian history using the pseudonym Jacky Jacky but met a grisly end on Norfolk Island.

Ned Kelly (December 1854 – 11 November 1880)[a] was an Australian bushranger, outlaw, gang leader and convicted police murderer. One of the last bushrangers, he is known for wearing a suit of bulletproof armour during his final shootout with the police.

In the wake of the destruction of the Hall gang and the Clarkes rose Bluecap, the alias of Robert Cottrell. Bluecap, assisted by White Chief, Jack the Devil, Black Jemmy and Scotch Jock, took over Morgan's beat and made the Riverina tremble in fear of these rogues.

South African born Hare was a pioneer on the Victorian goldfields before joining the police force. He was one of the troopers who snared Harry Power and when the Kelly gang were running amok in the 1870s Superintendent Francis Augustus Hare was given the task of hunting the gang down and bringing them to justice. Dressed as a gentleman hunter he led the police on many rough and rugged expeditions into the bush before leading the assault against the gang at Glenrowan.
