Taken at one of my bird photography workshops at Golden Beach on the Sunshine Coast. Nothing looks more comical than a pelican about to land. A friend once said to me "when they are flying they look like experts, when they are landing they look like they are still on their first lesson."

There are so many ways to photograph pelicans and for this one I decided on an extreme close up. Taken in the late afternoon sunlight at Caloundra

Caloundra (Sunshine Coast, Queensland) can be a great place for sunsets in Summer, and the constant presence of seagulls at Happy Valley can add a nice finishing touch.

Ospreys are one of the best birds of prey to photograph ,those talons and that intense glare in the eyes makes you happy that you are not their prey. This osprey headed took after after finishing a meal and flew straight in my direction creating on opportunity of a lifetime. Taken at Kings Beach, Caloundra in Queensland.

During Summer in Queensland our sunsets can get quite smoky, this year even more so with the bushfires. The sun going down through the smoke can light up the atmosphere, creating some amazing colour effects late in the day. Taken at a popular beach close to where I live.

The (nearly) full moon rises over the wreck of the SS Dicky on Caloundra's Dicky Beach. This photo shoot was significant because it was likely the last time I ever shot the Dicky as it was removed earlier this year.

Sometimes you need to take your focus off what you've come to take photos of an look around. I was at Dicky Beach to take photos of the wreck, but the clouds behind me were just as interesting!

Even after having seen the moon rise a number of times, it's hard to believe the sight of it imitating a sunrise as it pokes out from behind the clouds. This moonrise scene was captured over the wreck of the SS Dicky on the Sunshine Coast.

The remnants of the SS Dicky, which has been very quicky disintegrating in the last few years, underneath a jaw-dropping summer sunrise. What a morning!

The incoming tide rushes past the wreck of the SS Dicky as the sky explodes into colour above. What a sunrise -- especially since it was on a morning where we thought we'd get nothing!

Clouds rush towards the wreck of the SS Dicky as the moon rises. The wreck is just a shadow of what it once was; the sea has gradually worn it away until it's hardly recognisable from its form even 5 years ago.

I often take my students to Golden Beach at Caloundra to photograph pelicans and other birds in flight. This shot was late in the afternoon with a very relaxed pelican enjoying the last ray of sun.

One of the many shots I took during the Flickr meetup at the SS Dicky. I liked my dusk photos better than the fully-night ones because the dust wasn't so obvious in the dusky shots; also, the boats on the horizon aren't nearly as obvious/needing to be cloned out!

When we headed out to Dicky Beach on the morning I took this photo, I wasn't feeling confident that we'd see much colour at all. Then the skies opened up and the sunrise turned into one of the most amazing I'd ever seen. It was special to see a sunrise this good over the SS Dicky, since the shipwreck has now disintegrated to the point that the council will be removing it in a matter of months.

Some stormy weather got the local surfers excited and I captured this shot of a brave soul charging into the fray.
