This image is of the cloister within the old Coimbra Cathedral. I have to say that I like the cloisters of these wonderful old cathedrals in Europe. They are peaceful places; they seem to instill a sense of tranquility.

Detail of the cloisters of Wells Cathedral, Somerset, UK Wells Cathedral is one of the world's finest examples of medieval Gothic architecture. The existing structure, including the cloisters, date from the early 12th century.

This is an image of a section of the cloisters in Norwich Cathedral. In doing some reading, it seems that the cloisters here are the second largest in England; they certainly are extensive. While the cathedral was completed in about 1150, the cloisters weren't completed until about 300 years later. That still makes them very old. What I love about this image is the wonderful architecture being illuminated by the bright sunlight that in combination with the stonework gives the cloister a radiant glow. I do hope you also love it.

The Gothic cloister of the Cathedral of Barcelona (XIV - XV century) sees great work by architects such as Andreu Escuder and sculptors such as Claperós, father and son. It is accessed from inside the building through a Romanesque door in white Italian marble with archivolts decorated with geometric motifs and, above the capitals, sculptures of the Old and the New Testament. Above the archived gothic merlots to place the door in the Gothic context of the church.
