Description: Rongali Bihu, also known as Bohag Bihu, is one of the most cherished and vibrant festivals of Assam. Celebrated in mid-April, it marks the Assamese New Year and the arrival of spring. This festival is all about new beginnings, joy, and the rich cultural heritage of the Assamese people. Rongali Bihu brings communities together with traditional songs (Bihu geet), dances (Bihu naas), and the sound of dhols and pepas filling the air. People wear new clothes, prepare delicious traditional dishes like pitha, larus, and doi-chira, and pay respects to elders. Cattle are also bathed and decorated on Goru Bihu, showing the deep connection between Assamese life and agriculture. It is more than just a celebration—it’s a symbol of identity.
