Description: Set in 1964 Chicago, Cooley High is a landmark coming-of-age comedy-drama directed by Michael Schultz. The film follows high school seniors Cochise and Preach as they navigate the joys and challenges of youth, anchored by a vibrant Motown soundtrack, neighborhood camaraderie, and dreams of the future. While it begins as a lighthearted look at teenage life—filled with parties, romance, and playful antics—the narrative takes a poignant, emotional turn that reflects the harsh realities of systemic injustice. Celebrated for its authentic portrayal of Black urban youth with nuance and joy, Cooley High remains an enduring cinematic classic.
