Description: Impressions of Dungeness This was the home of Michael Derek Elworthy Jarman. 31st January 1942 to 19th February 1994. He was an English film director, stage designer, diarist, artist, gardener and author. On 22nd December 1986 he was diagnosed as HIV positive. His illness prompted him to move to Prospect Cottage. Here he created his famous garden using the plants that naturally grew at Dungeness. In 1994 he died of an AIDS related illness in London aged just 52. There is a poem on the side of the cottage which is the first stanza and the last five lines of the last stanza of John Donne's poem The Rising Sun.
