DRAG-U-LA, along with the Munster Koach, was one of two cars designed by Tom Daniel while working for George Barris and Barris Kustom Industries for the television show The Munsters. It was only seen in one episode, despite being shown in the intro throughout season 2. Based in the town of Norphlet in Union County, Arkansas, Macmillan Oil Company began producing their Ring Free line of motor oils in 1923. The company was highly successful in promoting their products through sponsorships of motorsports ranging from flat track motorcycle racing and powerboats, to air racing and grand prix events, leveraging them to make their 'race proven' claims. Ring Free products continued to be popular throughout the '60s and '70s, but in as more high-tech formulas from new companies arrived in the '80s, Macmillan Oil Company's fortunes began to wane, and by the end of the decade, they had ceased operations.

More American Graffiti is set over the course of four New Year's Eve holidays beginning in 1964 and tells four separate stories, one of which is that of John Milner, the head honcho of the racing scene in the first film, as his drag racing career advances. John's story follows him and the Milner Racing Team crew through a series of personal and professional ups and downs, culminating in a fatal finale. This Milner Racing Team design is a replica based on a screen used tee, ensuring it's accurate to those seen in the film.

Rotonda's Speed Shop was founded in 1963 in Bloomfield, New Jersey and while they originally started out selling off the shelf go fast goodies, they added bays for service and installation and ended up building some rather infamous racing engines that broke quite a few records throughout the '60s.

R.A. and F.D. Stranahan are essentially the founders of Champion Spark Plug Company. Sort of. At the very least, they ended up with the patent on the Champion name which they legally and wisely used to eventually create the largest spark plug manufacturing company in the world. But it certainly didn’t start out that way. More than 20 thousand dollars in debt, and with a company that was fledgling along at best, the brothers had little choice but to move to Toledo when Willys-Overland Motor Company offered R.A. and F.D. a contract under which Champion would become the exclusive spark plug of automobiles manufactured at Willys-Overland. The deal came with the stipulation that the Stranahans must make Toledo their home.

Before its 1992 dissolution, do-it-yourself retailer Pay 'N Pak Stores, Inc. sold a wide variety of products, from electrical and plumbing supplies to automotive accessories and sporting goods, and operated as many as 107 stores in 15 states in the western United States. At one time, Pay 'N Pak was a leading retailer in the industry and fielded a race-winning unlimited hydroplane named Pride of Pay 'N Pack that more than held its own against boats with big-name, national sponsors, including winning several championships.

At the height of the muscle car era, Oldsmobile made a deal with Hurst that worked out really well for both companies. In order to create a “halo” car, the two companies collaborated to produce special, limited edition, high-performance Cutlasses. The program started in 1968 with a run of 515 cars, and continued off and on for a number of years, with the final run in 1984, but for many fans, the 1968, 1969, and 1972 versions were the best out of the nine years these cars were offered. The inspiration for the production cars was the Hurst Hairy Olds of 1966-67, drag cars that made a huge impact – twin-engine, four-wheel-drive monsters that were really fun to watch.

Just as it had with the Road Runner in 1968, Plymouth hit a muscle car home run in 1970 with the budget-priced Duster 340. The formula for the 1970 Plymouth Duster 340 was familiar. Take a cheap-to-produce platform, in this case, a Valiant wearing a new fastback body, and treat it to a hot engine, here Mopar's respected 340-CID four-barrel V-8. The determined little Duster was lighter, roomier, and faster than the 340 'Cuda. With a base price of just $2,547, it was the lowest-priced car in Plymouth's Rapid Transit System. And it was the only one with front disc brakes standard.

The 1969 Hurst/Olds again used the 455-cid V-8 with W-30 heads, cam, distributor, and Force-Air induction. This engine, called the W-46, was slightly detuned from ’68, losing 10 bhp. A H/O modified Turbo Hydra-matic transmission with console-shifted Hurst Dual-Gate was mandatory. As high performance raced into the wacky late ’60s, the idea of a mad scientist conjuring up ever-more-potent 4-4-2s seemed almost reasonable, and Olds advertising was rife with the image of Dr. Oldsmobile in his baggy lab coat and silent-movie mustache. In a sense, there really was such a fellow: Jack “Doc” Watson, head of research for Hurst Performance Products.

In the early '70s, JuiceBox Performance Batteries were THE battery of choice for anyone running an extremely high compression and/or high cubic inch racing engine. So, what was the secret sauce? Unlike most traditional batteries with rubber casing, JuiceBox casings were made of polypropylene, which was about 75% thinner and 4x stronger. The extra space inside was used for more acid and more plates, resulting in batteries with 2x the cranking power of traditional builds. This meant that blown big block would turn over every time, even after a hot stall.

Maloney's Racing Slicks was a top independent tire manufacturer in the 60s. They specialized in slicks for drag racing and early NASCAR as well as streetable 'cheater slicks,' all from their small facility right on Anaheim Boulevard in Southern California.

The ”Big 4” American auto manufacturers couldn’t agree on too many things in the 1950s and ’60s, but one thing they could agree on, however, was the Borg-Warner T-10 four-speed transmission. Each of the manufacturers used the T-10 at some point during these years and even into the 70s in some applications. Because the transmission was used in so many production vehicles, they were easy to find, as well as being a reliable and strong four-speed, sought after by many racing enthusiasts of the time. They are still very popular with classic car and muscle car restorers today with the most popular version of the T-10 among enthusiasts being the Power Brute Super T-10 which used a 26-spline input shaft and were built to withstand the higher rpms.

One of the essential components to a successful drag strip run is starting-line grip, which is best achieved after performing one or more burnouts to heat up the tires. Also called anti-roll systems, launch controllers, or staging locks, line locks are crucial components for drag racers. Once activated, they lock up the front brakes independently of the rear brakes, so you’re ready to perform a tire-smoking burnout, or remain staged until the lights turn green, and you unleash the beast.
