As the 25th Infantry Division prepared to deploy to Vietnam in 1966, it was found to be short on personnel. In January 1966, the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry and the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry (Mechanized) were assigned from Alaska. On 6 January 1941 the 201st Infantry was inducted into federal service at Morgantown, West Virginia Following the war’s end the 201st reverted to state control where it was reorganized and redesignated as the 201st Field Artillery Battalion.
