Description: O.V. Jarrell founded Jarrell Truck Plaza in 1945 with just a $750 investment, opening his first location five miles north of Richmond, Virginia, on U.S. Route 1. When Interstate 95 arrived in 1964, he relocated the business to the Doswell exit, where it quickly became one of America's most famous truck stops. By 1978, the plaza was generating more than $1 million in monthly revenue and was often described as the world's busiest truck stop. More than a place to fuel up, it catered to every aspect of a driver's life with a 24-hour restaurant, motel, chapel, truck wash, chrome shop, repair garage, lounge, barbershop, showers, and general store. It also became home to the legendary Big John Trimble Show, a late-night country music radio show.
