When State Road 46 was built to access the Oregon Caves National Monument in the 1920s, Grants Pass was the closest town and local businessmen decided to form a "Caveman Club" to capitalize on the caves and promote their town. They dressed the part and became notorious for their antics and popular entertainment for locals and tourists alike.
