Chorio, the old capital of the island of Halki (Chalki), with 4,000 inhabitants in its heyday, was gradually abandoned and is now quite deserted and mostly in ruins, although it was once the only settlement on Halki. Chorio is built around the hill upon which the remains of the fortress stands (the Kastro, the castle of the medieval Knights of St John), and has some interesting old style stone houses. The town was built in a position concealed from view from the sea, and high above the initial maraudings of pirates. The resort of Agios Gordios or Aghios Gordios is on the west coast of Corfu, Greece. Agios Gordios is a relatively small resort with a long sandy beach, and is a real find. There is plenty to do with an assortment of Tavernas and Restaurants scattered along the narrow high street, and along the beach. The beach is one of the most popular beaches in Corfu; the sandy beach is surrounded by impressive rocky formations. Corfu is the most northerly of the Ionian Islands. Found this little church when walking South from Kardamaina, on the small Greek island of Kos. Since our visit in September 2001, this area has been developed into the Aegean Village Hotel Resort. Kos sits in the middle of the Dodecanese Chain of Greek Islands.

My wife loves Pomegranate (Punica granatum), personally I'm not keen on them. We came across this Pomegranate Tree on the Greek Island of Halki (Chalki). Sylvia was quite excited, well we don't get them in Scotland (yawn), and insisted I took a photograph, so here it is (you are all thrilled, aren’t you!!) In Greece, pomegranate (Greek: ρόδι, rodi) is used in many recipes, including kollivozoumi, a creamy broth made from boiled wheat, pomegranates and raisins, legume salad with wheat and pomegranate, traditional Middle Eastern lamb kebabs with pomegranate glaze, pomegranate eggplant relish, and avocado-pomegranate dip. Pomegranate is also made into a liqueur and popular fruit confectionery.

Firá, the capitol of the Greek island of Santorini hangs precariously at the edge of the cliff, 300 m (984 ft) above sea level. "Firá", is actually a different pronunciation of “Thíra”, the ancient name of the island itself.
