The Knightwood Oak Number of views as of 9th March 2016 = 600. The Knightwood Oak is the largest and possibly the oldest oak tree in the New Forest, Hampshire, southern England. It is also known as the Queen of the Forest. It is over 500 years old and has a girth of 7.38 metres (24.2 ft). The tree is still growing. It was pollarded when about 200 years old and is thought to have been last pollarded about 150 years ago. Pollarding is a method of tree management, which was used throughout the New Forest in ancient times. A pollarded tree is one that has been cut a couple of metres above ground level, promoting outward growth of fresh branches rather than the single main trunk continuing upwards, thus forcing growth of numerous new branches...

New Forest Pony Number of views as of 8th October 2018 = 940. A New Forest pony pictured near the Reptiliary, not far from Lyndhurst, Hampshire. The New Forest pony or New Forester is one of the recognised native pony breeds of the British Isles. The breed is valued for its hardiness, strength and sureness of foot. It is indigenous to the New Forest and it is estimated that up to 3,000 ponies can be seen roaming free throughout the 219 square miles of the Forest. The earliest record of horses in the New Forest dates back to 1016 when rights of common pasture were granted to the people living in what was then a royal hunting ground. Date: 13th May 2012.

One December morning I went for a walk through the New Forest National Park (Hampshire, UK), heading North from Brockenhurst to Lyndhurst. It was a cold morning but the sun had removed the frost from everywhere but this glade, where a little mist and the tree blocking the direct sun got me this view. Painting in oil, the layers of mist and sunburst proved and interesting challenge. Painting measures 20x16 inches.
