Metropolitan cats is the largest painting I've done so far. It is fun to crop parts of the painting, as it reveals many smaller paintings depending on what you crop out.

From an original Engraving from the Illustrated London News 1862. 1 month before the railway opened. Wiki: The Metropolitan Railway (also known as the Met) was a passenger and goods railway that served London from 1863 to 1933, its main line heading north-west from the capital's financial heart in the City to what were to become the Middlesex suburbs. Its first line connected the main-line railway termini at Paddington, Euston and King's Cross to the City. It was built beneath the New Road using the "cut-and-cover" method between Paddington and King's Cross and in tunnel and cuttings beside Farringdon Road from King's Cross to near Smithfield, near the City. After graduating from college in Massachusetts, John H. Wilkins Jr. returned home to work with his father, John J. Wilkins Sr., in his wholesale coffee and grocery firm in Washington D.C. Shortly thereafter in 1923, a fire destroyed most of the firm's warehouses and it was at this point that John Jr. persuaded his father to terminate his grocery business and focus on making their own coffee. Wilkins Coffee was born and would soon become an institution that would dominate the greater Washington metropolitan area for decades. The company would eventually give way to national brands some time in the '90s and is now largely remembered for their early TV commercials featuring a young puppeteer named Jim Henson.

This locomotive was built for the Metropolitan line and originally worked on both its overground and underground lines. In 2013 it once again hauled passengers between Olympia and Moorgate as part of the 150th anniversary of the London Underground railway.
