After seeing the pain in his eyes on a picture, Memo decided to drive 7 hours to pick that handsome up. From the moment he arrived he never once lost his dignity despite the agonizing pain and loss he suffered keeping his head up and eyes piercing through us almost trying to teach an important lesson with his humble acceptance of a new reality… He’s acted as if he’s lived in here with us all his life, at times making us feel like visitors him being the owner. Nowadays, he is discovering new things about living with us. He must be feeling good though as he started calling for a female already. We love him.''

Ollie is total pure cuteness, he captures the heart of humans who have the chance to get to know him. Ollie loves to cuddle, and is also very playful. Description: ''Pickles joins our family on every adventure, including camping trips. He stands on my left knee when he’s hungry, and gently pecks my hand to make sure I know he’s ready to eat. He is perpetually busy building nests for himself, and because he doesn’t understand he’s a pigeon, doesn’t want the company of a pigeon mate or to sit on fake eggs. Pickles the Pigeon is arguably the happiest, most loved creature on this planet. He enjoys baths, sunshine, socks, stuffed animals, and anything red. He hates car rides and opossums. Description: ''Dusya was very sickly baby, she had a lot of health issues, i was waking up very early to check on her. It took a while for her to begin to eat on her own and fight all the diseases. She had bad parasites infestation. She also had trichomoniasis and she wouldn't eat on her own until 6 months old. Just did not know how, so i tube fed her and later handfed her with pearl barley seeds. As for Charlie, he just escaped the nest too early and was strutting Moscow’s streets. He was a healthy baby. I did not plan on keeping him, and thought of releasing him next spring, but Dusya decided otherwise. She was smitten with the baby, wanted to become his mommy. But then Charlie grew up, and they got married. ''
Description: ''Rybka (fish) was found in one of Russian cities called Rybinsk ( a fish city). Rybka was very young she had only one healthy-ish leg, another one was broken, out of joint and twisted backwards, part of her leg was entangled in some kind of fishing line, and was totally black and dead. She healed and is adorable and chubby despite such horrible disability. She still looks like a young pigeon because of her sickness, she only has one able leg and another one is just a stub. She fights issues with feathers while thoroughly enjoying little nooks, delicious food and hiding places that are soft, she likes human attention and cuddles and she is afraid of other pigeons. She is dearly loved by her human parent''.

Description: The “miscellaneous” street pigeon is not just some random city bird. It is one of humanity’s oldest companions. 🕊️ For thousands of years, we selectively bred pigeons to serve us. We shaped their instincts, bred the wild out of them, and made them trust us completely. They carried our messages across continents and battlefields, saved lives during wars, supported agriculture, and became humanity’s very first form of “instant messaging.” We did not build our civilizations alone. In many ways, pigeons built them with us. The birds people now dismiss as “rats with wings” are the descendants of animals we once celebrated, relied on, and depended upon.
Description: This work is about repetition in history, and the roles that continue over time. For centuries, pigeons were used by humans to carry messages of war and peace. They were trained to return, to serve a function that was not their own. Because they fly, we often assume they are free. But their movement has also been shaped, directed, and used. In this artwork, the bird is being released, which can be seen as a symbol of peace and freedom. But at the same time, the surrounding hands suggest something else: repeated gestures, control, and patterns that persist. For millennia, pigeons have served human needs, carrying messages, supporting wars, connecting people. They were used with precision and loyalty. They were celebrated.
Description: “We met Kluva (Beakie, in English) when I visited my parents. She sat on the shoulder suddenly and I noticed her injured broken wing and beak. We couldn’t leave her. Kluva went to Moscow with me, and I bought a lot of toys, different seeds and big tent for her. Kluva went to vet, took a lot of tests. Also we found out that Kluva is a girl. Kluva was under medication about 2-3 months and, finally, she started to feel better. But we couldn’t fix her broken beak. So, Kluva can’t be free, she lives with me, and I feed her every day. She is very cheerful birdie. She loves domestic plants, fights with my Lego dragon and loves to press keys on my work laptop. Sometimes she sends messages to my colleagues! (Victoria, Moscow, Russia)
Description: ''Stevie is a strong-willed, loving soul. She bonded to me quickly. When I returned to work, I adopted Cher and Bruce so she would have company while I was out of the house, but she remains my "ride or die". I struggle with chronic illness and she is always by my side at my worst moments. When she is not sitting on the nest she loves to cuddle with me, keep me company, taste all the foods I'm eating, and hop around the apartment foraging for seeds or whatever else she finds. Description: Every time a pigeon is pulled from a hat, hidden under a magician’s cape, or forced into a routine for human entertainment, it is not magic—it is exploitation. Pigeons are living beings. Sensitive, intelligent, social creatures who feel fear, confusion, and pain just like any other animal. In magic acts, they are routinely stuffed into tight spaces, exposed to loud noises, bright lights, and sudden movements. They are often isolated, deprived of their natural behaviors, and discarded when they are no longer “useful.” This is trauma, masked as wonder. What we applaud as spectacle is, in truth, a repeated act of domination. Animals are not here for our amusement or to serve as tools of performance. For them, it is trauma, again and again.
Description: « Hiroshima Dove Cote for Peace” is conceived as a monument of coexistence between humans and pigeons as urban birds. The sculpture combines shelter, memory, and peace through the image of a resting dove held within two open hands. The architecture below is not a reconstruction of the destroyed Hiroshima Dome, but rather a distant architectural echo, a remembrance of history transformed into a place of refuge and life. The niches integrated into the structure function as dove cotes, offering shelter to birds within the monument itself. The hands are inspired by folded forms that subtly recall Japanese origami without becoming literal origami sculptures. Their faceted geometry suggests fragility, care, and reconstruction.
Description: Inspired by the London Underground network, the golden lines crossing the structure evoke both circulation and refuge. During World War II, Underground stations became shelters for civilians during the Blitz. In the monument, these lines symbolize connection, resilience, movement, and protection, transforming the dovecote into both a sanctuary for the bird of peace, the pigeon, and a memory space for human coexistence. For many years, the pigeons of Trafalgar Square were part of London’s identity, fed, photographed, celebrated, and deeply woven into the memory of the city. Later, they became rejected, increasingly treated as unwanted. This project imagines the return of a peaceful coexistence with respect and care .
Description: Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) Dovecote for Peace is inspired by the Sebilj Fountain, one of the city’s most emblematic public spaces, where pigeons gather, drink, and move freely around water. It is a place of quiet coexistence between architecture, nature, and daily life. For the base, I was inspired by this fountain, a point of gathering and return, where pigeons are not separate from the city but fully part of it. The sculpture’s foundation becomes a large hand, offering and supporting, echoing the gesture of drinking from water. It sits between giving and receiving, care and dependence, peaceful coexistence, human presence and fragile life.
Description: “ I often joke that woman was an angel who brought Shrimp to me, as I never saw her again. Today, Shrimp is so loved and so spoiled. She is sassy and so funny. The most assertive of my pigeons. Most days I wake up to her standing on my chest looking at me. I don’t know anything of her life before, but she has shown that she remembers bagels. The first time I had a bagel in her presence, she could barely move but immediately navigated towards it. I wonder about her past all the time. She gets a bit under the weather when she lays eggs and becomes a cuddle bug all over again. I admire that she is firm in her boundaries, often bold and fierce, but willing to accept help when she needs it. I love her so much.'' (Brooklyn, NYC)
Description: In the heart of our cities, amidst the noise and motion, there are quiet hands working miracles. Pigeon rehabbers are the guardians of a misunderstood species, feral pigeons who navigate our concrete jungles with grace and vulnerability, but also racing pigeons, or victims of pigeons releases or other cases of animal abuse. Each bird they rescue is a life saved, a piece of the urban ecosystem restored. Birds that cannot be released because of their injuries or handicaps will be adopted by loving families. Wrapped in soft towels, fed with care, and healed with love, these birds are given a second chance to soar. Supporting pigeon rehab means believing in coexistence. It means seeing beauty and value in all urban life.
Description: ''Harley was born into the Haarlemersluis Amsterdam (Netherlands) inner city flock, where extreme stringfoot is the norm. Pigeons get this horrible condition from walking constantly on the streets for food, wherever there are lots of people and human garbage. When pigeons receive a steady and appropriate food source then the incidence of stringfoot is very much reduced. Within every struggling, bedraggled city pigeon is a gorgeous bird with a unique character & personality, if he or she could be allowed to exist beyond desperate survival mode. Feral pigeons are estray domesticated birds, not wild animals, and they deserve food, shelter and, when needed, medical attention in city council lofts.''
Description: This poor bird was hit by a car, if not two, and lost the ability to use both of his legs as a baby. Not even a year old, he was paralyzed, but showed such interest in himself in the mirror, he steadily gained strength and movement enough to fly and scoot around on his own. With the assistance of Yasmin, transportation was set up and Deku quickly found himself en route to our little apartment to meet our flock. The moment this little bird came into our space, Ben scooped him up to give him love. The terror was evident in his face, but he accepted scratches around the neck happily. Ben and I named him Deku, since the personality we noticed was a bubbly little guy that reminded us a bit of the My Hero Academia character we'd watch on TV.''
Description: '' I went to the local park to feed some Pigeons but before I even got out of my car I spotted a lone bird in the middle of the road looking lost. She was in danger of getting hit by a car and I quickly realized it was a racing pigeon that had either gotten lost on its way home or had been dumped. After following her for some time me and my boyfriend were able to grab her and put her in a box and take her home. She was very fearful at first but after living in my room with me for 3 months she has blossomed into a smart, curious, and gorgeous bird. Although Plum still won’t let me hold her, I know that our bond will only strengthen with time. '' Plum lives with her human parents in Reno, Nevada.
Description: ''I absolutely adore this little bird! He quickly stole my heart and took over control of the household! He has free range of the house pretty much all day long although the spot he picked for his personal space is the top of an armoire/bookshelf. I credit his foster for creating such a positive introduction to humans, as connecting with Gaston happened really quickly. He always starts cooing when he hears me come inside from morning farm chores and flies into the kitchen for treats and ‘kitchen baths’ every day when I need to cook! He loves hanging out with our other special needs pigeon, Cleo, who we have since also adopted.'' Gaston lives with his human parent Carol in Martinsville, Southern Virginia.
