The chequered flag. A flag having a pattern of black and white squares, used to signal that a car has crossed the finish line and completed its race. Well known in motor sport to signify the racer has completed the course with the winner as first to cross the line. Flag speaks of success, winning and being no.1. Top of the podium,winning awards and applause from fans. Why the chequered flag? The meaning is lost in history which itself leads to many possible origins. However the first photographic record stands from 1906.
