Being fond of mid 20th Century Tiki culture it was just a matter of time before I created a Tiki artwork. I have different things I want to do with this digitally with backgrounds so although the main subject is finished, this is only the start of the things I want to do.

The Islander, was a Hawaiian style, Tiki bar & restaurant in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. Famed for it’s mid-century modern A-frame architecture, bridge entry & flaming torches. Unfortunately this slice of Polynesian Style & 1960s Americana was demolished in the 1980s. But you can still celebrate it with this T-Shirt from ryte TRACK.

Oahu-based Island Hoppers is a one-man helicopter charter service owned and operated by Theodore "T.C." Calvin on the 1980 series, Magnum, P.I. As one of Magnum's close friends, T.C. often found himself being persuaded by Magnum to fly him around on various cases, making his multicolored Hughes 500D helicopter, the civilian variation of the OH-6 military helicopter, a familiar sight in almost every episode.

Gonna take you to a dive bar. The Tiki has had a greater influence on the modern art world than many realize. The 20th century saw a rise in American’s fascination with the Pacific Islands and their native culture. Images of the traditional life of native islanders captivated the residents of the Continental U.S. and brought about a desire to fill their mundane environment with some of the iconography of the islands. Post World War II returning GI’s brought back images of the Pacific Islands and the fascination with Tiki emerged. By the 1960s Tiki could be seen everywhere. It adorned buildings, restaurants, motels and all manner of advertising. Exports of authentic Tiki could not keep up with the demand.
