Drawn in workbook when at Telford College in 2008 as I attempted to create a portfolio of drawings from the imagination. Rediscovered out in my garage in portfolio case yesterday [apr 2011] and digitally coloured in elements.

A lone fisherman heads out to sea on a gorgeous morning in Svolvær. Maybe he was training for the World Cod Fishing Championships the next weekend?

Horses are elegant creatures. Their calm, timid natures are a quality I’ve always admired about these gentle giants. What I wanted to focus on was the intricacy of a horses skull with the inclusion of a few beautiful lily flowers. Lily’s are a symbol of death in many cultures so I found it fitting to go along with the idea of a skull and the aspect of death. Overall I was very pleased with the resulting product!

The flip side of life is death, visa versa. I'm not afraid to divulge into ones own mortality. The complexity of the human body has always fascinated me. The inspiration of this piece came from an idea I had to represent the flip side of death in the form of a living heart and something natural such as some foliage. The outcome I was very happy with.

Growing up, I have always been a horror fan. A lover of all things dark and scary. For this piece in particular, I was attracted to the idea of a human sacrifice to something of another world. A demon of sorts who is claiming the heart as a part of an offering from the humans, thus giving this creation the name 'The Offering'. I was hesitant to do something that was worlds apart from my previous work but I wouldn't be much of an artist if I didn't divulge into a risqué subject that I feel so passionate about.

One of my favourite scenes from Svolvær, the 'capital' of the Lofoten Islands that absolutely blew me away. I think I could have spent my entire trip in Lofoten -- stockfish stink and all!

For as long as humanity has been ruling this earth, the loyal canine has been by our side. As a dog lover myself, I cannot imagine life without one in it. This piece is a symbolism of the union and bond between the two species. Man's best friend but just as importantly, woman's best friend.

The unique bond between horses and man is an age old thing. But for this piece I wanted to focus on the female form and the bond between women and horses as well as men. Taking a detailed horse skull and a simple woman, I placed the horses skull on top and used it as a crown with the nature of the vines and flowers growing through it for the naturalistic symbolism.

What to do on a snowy afternoon when you've missed the other activity you planned? Hike up the side of a fjord through the snow! This was the view from the top of my walk from Svolvær in Norway's Lofoten Islands, looking out towards Kabelvåg and the Norwegian Sea beyond.

Luckily, our trip out to Warwick last Friday offered a number of other photo opportunities aside from the sunflowers that we were searching for (and that we found were mostly already in seed). This shot comes from a quick stop to look at the storm clouds that were welling up and heading over Cunningham Gap towards the coast. I love how vibrant the colours in Australia are!

We woke up to rain on our morning in Stonehaven in 2009, but by the time we were leaving Dunnottar Castle, it looked like this! I thought this was a beautiful representation of Scotland in May -- reasonable weather and lots of gorse!

It was this view that truly made me realise that I was in Spain. Such a colourful place!

Which would you rather do: walk through an autumnal forest (like in my last photo) or stroll down a snow-covered lane in the everlasting golden hours of Lapland's winter?

It's November now in Brisbane, which means the flowers on the jacarandas are scattered across the ground and the frangipani trees are in full bloom. I love this flower, both for its look and its gorgeous smell, and it is one of many things that make me instantly think of summer.

Living in the country, you see all sorts of wildlife out and about in the fields. One regular occurrence for the area in which I live, deers are a common sight. But it’s very rare you get to see the majesty of a stag. I’ve always been fascinated how each stag have unique antlers, no two are ever the same so I wanted to use the basis of a stag but include a selection of delicate flowers to represent the beauty and frailty of nature.

If you leave your assets in the sun they might liquidate

As an artist I'm always looking to do things out of the ordinary and as a lover of all things weird, I wanted to create a simple piece representing the relationship between man and beast. Or in this case, woman and bull. Using a simple bull skull sketch I created a man to cover the eyes and nose of the figure to create a simple yet striking piece to which I really enjoyed creating!

I REALLY love ART!

October is my favourite time of year in Brisbane. Not only is the weather gorgeous without the summer humidity, but it's also the one month where the city turns purple with blooming jacarandas. These trees line many a street in the city, including this bike path at the University of Queensland.
