The tide mill on the River Deben quayside at Woodbridge, Suffolk. This is the 'newest' of the mills that have stood on this site having been built in the 1600s. The earliest recorded mill here was in 1170. During th middle ages it was run by the local Augustinian priory but at the time of the Dissol;ution it passed into the hands of Henry VIII. It operated until 1957 sfter which it became derelict. However, following subsequent restoration it was reopened in 1973.

The bridges over the River Tyne in Newcastle upon Tyne are more well known than any other attraction in Newcastle city., The Tyne Bridge in particular is a recognised symbol of Tyneside. Now a Grade II listed building the steel structure was officially opened in 1928. In this view you can also see Newcastle Quayside, a popular place for tourists to take stroll along the river.

Looking out over the red tiled rooftops of Stavanger's Old Town - Gamle Stavanger. This district with its white-painted houses is the largest wooden city in northern Europe! Most of the houses date from the C18th and C19th. They were saved when after WWII it was decided to demolish most of them to be replaced by modern concrete buildings. However, the city's architect spoke against this plan saying they should be preserved and treasured,

A Thames sailing barge at the quayside in Woodbridge, Suffolk. These barges were once a common sight along the Thames estuary and the east coast of England. Being flat-bottomed and with a shallow draught they could negotiate the shallower areas of the Thames, its estuary and the tributary rivers. Woodbridge is a picturesque town on the River Deben in Suffolk. The quay area is full of photographic opportunities and in the background here is the old weatherboarded tide mill. Petty Harbour is a small close-knit fishing community located on the Eastern coast of Newfoundland, not far from the town of St.John's. Although it still has a small population, it has grown considerably in the last 50 years, before which there were only a few families inhabiting the cove. The brightly coloured and smartly decorated houses show how proud the locals are of their home. Taken 8th October 2023 Nikon D780 & Nikon 28-300mm

Approaching the port of Invergordon as the sun is setting over the surrounding hills. Invergordon, gateway to the Highlands, lies in the Cromarty Firth on the north east coast of Scotland. It is a deep water port and as such is ideal for the maintenance and servicing of oil rigs which line the approach as they wait. This is a digitally produced coloured graphic sketch.

It is a cruise ship destination as it is a gateway to the highlands including nearby Loch Ness. These ships arrive and depart to the sound of the local pipe band.

The Kennet and Avon Canal at Aldermaston Wharf in West Berkshire. Beautifully peaceful now but once this was a hive of industry. After the completion of the canal in 1810, trade and commerce increased and a community grew up here which included all-important carpenters who serviced the locks and bridges. The Wharf would have seen exports of timber and agricultural produce and the import of coal, groceries and manufactured goods. However, with the coming of the railway canal trade declined.
