Rocky Mountaineer Pillows
Description: The railways in Canada, especially in the west, were a unifying force. A condition of British Columbia joining confederation was the completion of a transcontinental railway that linked the province to the rest of Canada. That said, the resulting railway, built through the Rockies, is an engineering tour de force and a most spectacular journey. We had planned to travel on the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Kamloops and then on to Banff, but alas the first day had to be cancelled because of forest fires. This image, though, is from deep in the Rockies, where the train line follows the Columbia River up towards Golden, British Columbia. The skies were clear here of the incredible, widespread pall of smoke that 'clouded' the first part...
Description: The Rocky Mountains of Colorado form one of the most dramatic and iconic landscapes in North America. Stretching across the heart of the state, the Rockies are home to towering peaks, alpine lakes, dense forests, and abundant wildlife. More than 50 mountains rise above 14,000 feet, including famous summits such as Longs Peak, Mount Elbert, and Pikes Peak. The region attracts millions of visitors each year for hiking, skiing, camping, fishing, and scenic drives. Rocky Mountain National Park showcases some of the range's most breathtaking scenery, with rugged mountain vistas, wildflower-filled meadows, and herds of elk roaming through the valleys. The Rockies remain a symbol of the American West and a destination for outdoor adventure.
Description: So you think you're in shape? Run a lot do ya? OK, well try doing that at 11,000 feet in elevation. Then lets see just how "fit" you are. lol Altitude sickness gets everyone when they first hit the rockies in any state. Colorado, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, you name it, if it has mountains, the air is thin. At least you can just point to your shirt when someone asks you what's wrong.
