Everyone shouted, "Run for your lives!" and scurried every which way. Alfred said, "What do you make of it, Lucinda?" Lucinda said, "I have never seen anything like it. For now, find something to hold on to as we do not want to be blown away." The blinding storm was upon us before we could gather our wits. Art by Duy Truong..................Soldier bees came forward and marched all of us deep within the hives. We entered a hive that was much larger than the others and we could see the queen before us. She was surrounded by attendants that were all determined that no harm come to her. I stood before them while several attendants brought forth their "feelers," ( I do not know what to call them) and they examined me from top to bottom. They made it clear that the others were not to step forward. That was an honor reserved for me. One attendant ushered me before the queen. She was not at all what I had anticipated. She descended a spiral staircase and appeared to be very much a human. She spoke in perfect English, "What is the message you bear?

You are the scrawniest of the bunch. How do you shoot?" Zeke said, "I don't use a gun. I have a slingshot, a rope, and then a cast iron skillet. That's all I need." I said, "Let him show you what he can do." "Go ahead, kind sir," said Deke, "show us what you can do." It was apparent that he was skeptical from the look on his face. Zeke found a pinto and galloped around the yard while he performed all sorts of trick riding stunts: jumping around on both sides to the ground and back, standing on the pinto's head, and various acrobatics that includ...

Art by Duy Truong......We have several variations on this...............Tammy decides to act as a decoy for Buffalo Bill so he may deliver the Pony Express mochilla on time......................... Arrows began flying straight for us from all directions. Zeke and Cedric shot back with their slingshots as we race by. Alfred said, "Those are the tiniest arrows I have ever seen!" I looked at the arrows that were landing all about the road and could see that he was right. "We have seen arrows like this in Kira. The Kakuna tribe had tiny arrows like this!" I looked closely at the Indians and I could see we had found the missing tribe that had been swept away. Cedric pulled an arrow out of his hat. He said, "They are our friends!"

Art by Duy Truong,................... Tammy and her little critters have rounded up the bad guys so Tammy can see that the Pony Express is founded by Alexander Majors. She figures it would be difficult to do if he were killed by bandits robbing the stage.......... As always Duy has come up with an adorable scene...................The passengers jumped out of the stage and gathered 'round. As you may imagine they were astonished and grateful for our deeds. The driver and guard shook our hands and we all became acquainted. We decided to tie the bandits to their horses and turn them over to the law in Lexington. Cedric, Zeke, and Polly flew alongside to make sure nothing went wrong. Alfred and I hopped aboard the stage with the passengers.

Alfred wondered, "What about this one?" and handed it to White Feather. I handed him one I pulled from a charred post. He said, "None of these were made by an Indian. They are the work of whites." He pointed to the pony tracks. "See these tracks. They are made to look like unshod ponies. White men bind the hooves in leather to make it look like unshod Indian ponies." Zeke wondered, "What do you think they are up to?" White Feather said, "No good. They want it to look like Indians." Alfred said, "From what I saw in town, it would be a good way to start an Indian war." I said, "These arrows are the e...

Art by Duy Truong................................................I said, "FOLLOW ME!" Polly and I raced for the vortex that became larger with each passing moment. All of the bees followed behind at a furious pace. We flew higher and higher and then into the center of the vortex. There was a great flash of light and suddenly we were flying over Kira. I looked behind and saw the passengers of time and space passing through the vortex. I said a little prayer of thanks that all had gone well.

I read another chapter from Buffalo Bill, The King of the Border Men to Zeke, Cedric, and Polly. As I tucked them in, I asked if they had learned anything from our adventure with the Pony Express and Buffalo Bill.
