It is a representation of the Japanese red-crowned crane that is referred to as the "Honourable Lord Crane" in Japanese culture. The Japanese culture believed that its wings carried souls up to paradise.
Description: Tsuru 鶴 is the Japanese word for the famous royal cranes of Japan. They are a symbol of the country, as the red mark on their forehead resembles the Japanese flag, and are commonly found on kimono worn in the fall thru the new year. This is an original design, based off of my huge collection of antique kimono.
