This painting was commissioned by my cousin, who lives in the Vegas area. He's a lawyer and also obsessed with Doctor Who. He wanted a western-themed Doctor Who painting to hang in his office. I painted this shortly after they announced that River Song would return for the 2015 Christmas special. I love River Song. The return of Donna Noble. She could be an annoying, overly-sensitive, whiney brat. But Donna is perhaps the most real companion to date. Rigsy is a character loosely based on Banksy, the famous anonymous graffiti artist. After Clara died in the Season 9 episode, Face the Raven, one of the final scenes was Rigsy walking away from this floral tribute to Clara on the abandoned Tardis, which had been left behind when the Doctor was teleported against his will. The second I saw it, I knew I was going to paint it...because I had to have it on my wall. Now you can have it on your wall.

This is my tribute to Amy and the Doctor. I love their best-friend relationship, as it reminds me of the dynamic I’ve had with my best friend. This was a commissioned piece for an auction that my cousin put together for Harper’s Day - a day devoted to her lost child. I felt that this image perfectly captured the love of a mother. This was also the scene that really created my obsession with Doctor Who. The proceeds of the auction were given to an organization that helps to stop the child sex slave trade.

This is another recreation of a promo image, this time for ‘Kill the Moon.’ I fell in love with the image of the Doctor crawling on the moon with giant spiders behind him. A colorful steampunk weaver of time

This is a recreation of an image taken from the Series 8 episode, ‘Listen,’ but the scene is a flashback to the 50 Year anniversary episode - Day of the Doctor. This is perhaps the heaviest scene in all of Doctor Who mythology, because here, the Doctor is looking on the barn where he slept as a child, considering the decision he had to make - ending the Time War by committing genocide. This is a fan favorite. Amelia Pond, waiting outside for the Doctor to return. Staring at the starry sky until she falls asleep on her luggage. She’d grow up with the raggedy Doctor as an imaginary friend. Her character plays on our child-like imagination and curiosity for adventure. This is one of my biggest paintings. I wanted a painting that looked into the Tardis. Initially, I wanted the Doctor to have his hand out-stretched, beckoning me to join him. But I wondered too much if I was worthy of such adventures. I have struggled with social anxieties a lot and have found it too easy to retreat into myself (and into shows like this). So instead, I had the Doctor look as though he was considering me - Are you ready to follow the Mad Man in the box? Are you willing to conquer the real world? Some day.

Peter Davison was the fifth Doctor. Since his predecessor, Tom Baker, was the Doctor for eight years, the fifth Doctor was developed almost in absolute contrast to the fourth Doctor. He was more cautious, more serious, younger and less eccentric. He wore a Cricket uniform. If you're not familiar with Cricket, it has a very preppy, trim look to it, like something you'd see at a private Country Club. The only eccentric part of his wardrobe was the celery that he pinned to his lapel, but even that had a purpose, as he claimed that it would turn purple in the presence of certain poisonous gases. This was my first Doctor Who painting. I was watching a short webisode prior to the ‘Bells of St. John.’ At this time, the Doctor had lost the Ponds and had two strange encounters with the impossible girl. He was alone. Drifting lazily on a swing. I’d been struggling with my own loneliness for years following my divorce. Here, the Doctor captured how I’d been feeling, so I decided to paint it because I wanted it on my wall. This led me to paint others. Less than a year later, my walls were covered with Doctor Who paintings.

I've only seen a few episodes from the Sixth Doctor, as Netflix and Hulu don't have any of his episodes (as of the last time I checked). Most of what I know about this Doctor comes from books and documentaries. Colin Baker's tenure as the Doctor from 1984 to 1986 was a bit of a mess, though you can't really blame him. The producers took the show into a black hole from which the show would struggle to climb out of until the reboot of 2005. The producers clashed with Baker from the beginning. They made him violent, arrogant, and condescending, though not in a fun, witty sort of way that present Doctors display. Baker wanted a dark outfit, a black velvet suit, but the producers put him into a clownish outfit. The outfit has since become nea...

Prior to painting this, I asked my Twitter followers what I should paint next and the most votes were for something that expressed the relationship between the 12th Doctor and Clara. This scene immediately came to mind. I can't describe the scene without writing a hundreds of words. Let's just say, Clara totally betrays the Doctor in an attempt to save her boyfriend who had been hit by a car and killed. It just might have been my favorite scene from Series 8 because of his response after her betrayal. We should all be so lucky to experience such friendship.

At the beginning of the episode, ‘The Bells of St. John’ (Series 7), the Doctor was painting this portrait in a cave when the phone on his Tardis started ringing. I loved the painting so much that decided to recreate it. It’s one of my favorite paintings. Run, you clever boy. And remember…

Art Nouveau Police Call Box

Wilfred Mott is every Whovian’s grandfather. Throughout series Four, we knew that the Doctor’s life would end with four knocks. Everyone assumed the four knocks was leading to the Master. And after the Doctor defeated the Master and Rassilon, it was Wilfred’s selfless mindset that led to the 10th Doctor’s demise. Also, Wilfred and the Four Knocks sounds like a cool indie rock band. Peter Capaldi’s first episode as the Doctor was funny, tense, and very different from previous Doctors. This scene stuck out to me, so I painted it immediately afterwards. The texture of the scene. The gravity of two men unsure of their identity...unsure of who was the monster.

Pop art inspired 10th Doctor.

Osgood is, quite simply, an ode to every whovian. She's only appeared in a few episode since the 50th Anniversary Episode, Day of the Doctor - her debut. But she's become a fan favorite because she is a reflection of us (whovians) placed into the story. It is as though Moffat decided to pluck a cosplaying whovian from Comic Con and put her into the narrative. That said, Ingrid Oliver is an excellent actor. I don't want to take away from her performances by implying that she's basically a random Whovian. Her character is, quite simply, the best of us. In early 2016, this painting will appear in an episode of Doctor Who Notes (it's likely going to be the Zygon Invasion or the Zygon Inversion) on BBC America.

Yay Dr. Who! This episode scared me sooo much when I first saw it so it seems fitting to let it scare everyone else! Fun fact: This was the first scratchboard I ever did. I didn't have the correct tools at the time so I used a flat head screwdriver to draw this.

One of the running themes in Doctor Who is the tendency to write in little moments that represent the actors' real personality. With David Tennant, they gave him an episode in Scotland so that he could speak with his real accent. With Matt Smith, they gave him a scene where he schooled everyone in a game of soccer, as Smith was nearly a professional footballer. Peter Capaldi used to play guitar and sing in a punk band back in the late 70s or early 80s. Hence, this awesome scene.
