Wilfredo Gomez Pillows
Description: Wilfredo Gómez Rivera born October 29, 1956), sometimes referred to as Bazooka Gómez, is a Puerto Rican former professional boxer and three weight world champion. He is frequently mentioned among the best Puerto Rican boxers of all time by sports journalists and analysts. His seventeen consecutive knockouts in championship defenses as a junior featherweight is a record for all boxing divisions. He was ranked number 13 on The Ring magazine's list of the "100 greatest punchers of all time". In 1995, Gómez was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Description: A fight between Gómez and Pintor had been in the making for over a year. Originally, Pintor, the WBC's bantamweight champion, had expressed moving up to the super bantamweight division in the summer of 1981 after Gómez had expressed interest in moving up the featherweight division following his featherweight title fight against Salvador Sánchez.
Description: Wilfredo "Bazooka" Gómez improved to 23-0-1 with 23 KO and made his seventh defense of the WBC junior featherweight title with a 5th round TKO of Nestor Jimenez at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1979. Jimenez was a slick Colombian veteran with more than 80 pro fights, but despite being tough he was at the end of a long career, plus no match for a young, powerful puncher like Gómez. Gómez dropped about six pounds to make the 122-pound limit, but crushing body work made the fight an easy one for him. Jimenez did his best to duck and shift his way around the ring and away from Gómez's power, but it didn't work for long.
