This is Levi, three weeks old. The hands belong to his five big brothers: Jacob (18), Joshua (16), Johnny (13), Hudson (6) and Reilly (3). It is the cutest thing to have your teenage boys argue over whose turn it is to hold the baby... that's when they can get him away from ME, not to mention his big sisters who are always asking for a turn, too. Sometimes they let his Dad hold him, too... This is little Levi, 18 months old tomorrow. This is my 23rd work in my 52 week challenge (did last weeks late and this week I'm a little early, but it still counts, right?) I've had this idea for a while and have been longing to try it, but it didn't turn out nearly how I hoped it would. But I thought I would post it anyway, all that work! I might try and re-do it someday. But not today. : ) Two of my own original photographs, manipulated in Photoshop.

John Singer Sargent said that a portrait is a painting with something wrong with the mouth. I've always liked that quote. I've never done a portrait (drawing or painting) that didn't feel a little off to me, in some way or other. Now, as I venture into digital painting, I find the same thing happening. I could have worked on this image for days & days longer than I have, but, well, enough. Sometimes you just have to force yourself to stop. : ) This is Mila, 6. (I still have so so much to learn!)

I have created this alter ego for myself. Why, you ask? Because I _NEED_ her. Lol. She can solve most of the world's problems with bandaids, milk and cookies, she knows just what to say to make you feel better when you're down. The monster under the bed is _terrified_ of her and nightmares flee at the sound of her steps. She has superhuman powers of persuasion when it comes to broccoli, chores and bedtimes... and yet it's possible to finish your broccoli or chores, or land up in bed with the light out and _still_ know that she loves you.

Shot in natural light (in front of a window) - one of my first portraits of my new little son, Levi. Who knew photographing newborns was SO DIFFICULT? The last time I had a newborn around the house (three years ago) I was not on the bubble and not taking many photographs and didn't do much portraiture... I feel like I'm taking photos for the first time... lol!

Will probably take this down at some stage but I wanted to encourage my daughter, Tane, who was feeling very down about her art today (her 13 year old sister is very talented!) She told me, she doesn't see the point, her work is no good and it'll never be good enough for redbubble!! (Wonder where she gets that ambition from??) Most of my children mess around with photoshop on a daily basis, I'm sure one day they'll all be very good at it!

Oil on canvas My December was spent far away from my computer which meant no photography, no t-shirt designing, no digital artwork, no redbubble!! I thought I would be lost with no creative outlet, but my husband suggested I paint. So I did. This is a painting of my daughter, Tane. It has been 4 years since I last painted in oils, I feel very rusty. : ) Next time I'm far away from my computer, I'm gonna try again.
