Yeah yeah, you play bass. But can you play Double? Not so easy without dots and frets eh?
One of the quietest instruments in Jazz, but lets face it, take it away, and everything sounds cr*p. All hail the Double Bass.
The roadsign that should be included in the Jazz Driving Test. Drop a gear, put your foot down and embrace this stretch of life , where there are no restrictions...

Intellectual. Technique-busting. Dangerous. Stand with your tribe and demand others rise to your musical heights, or perish on the bandstand before you.

Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis. Allegedly called Lockjaw for his lack of vibratro. A star of the Count Basie band, steeped in r'n'b, bop , Lockjaw had a huge sound and approach. He played with literally every star in the jazz world and later in his life enjoyed his legend status touring Europe and beyond. If you haven't heard Lockjaw in a big band, or in one of his small band settings with other luminaries such as Fats Navarro or Sonny Stitt, , you're missing out.
Remind the world of the greats.

There were many styles and regional styles, and early practitioners floating in the dust of the early Jazz universe, trying to form planets, but only 1 man was capable of influencing Jazz gravity itself to condense and create from all these combined elements. We need to face it, the master distiller, the genius, the nebula, the singularity, Louis Armstrong really is God to Jazz. He extended the trumpet range, blew minds and wrote the book we all must begin with.
