Aryatara, noble Tara, consort of Amoghasiddhi the green Buddha of action and fearlessness, steps out into the world, her other leg in meditation posture. Her left hand holds three blue Utpala lotuses, one in bud, one semi open and one fully opened, her right hand holds the double vajra unifying all opposites. In this painting the time is midnight although the sun and moon in the sky are telling us that we are outside of time.

This depiction of green Tara takes inspiration from Eastern and Western iconography. Influences include Western European woodcuts, North Indian miniatures, medieval imagery and the twentieth century painting tradition - Matisse and other colourists.
