Tucson is very much a college town. Couple that with being a short drive to the Mexican border, and it should come as no surprise that there is no shortage of really good Mexican food options. In 1982, Dirty Sanchez Taco Shop added their name to the list of places to grab a bite. Located in the city's Barrio Hollywood neighborhood, Dirty Sanchez was an unassuming hole in the wall that offered traditional Mexican favorites. Their claim to fame was that they made everything from scratch using abuela's generational recipes. Nothing canned or microwaved – just made fresh daily Mexican food of a quality that rivaled pretty much everyone in town.

Gay Bob was a doll that was created in 1977 and billed as the world's first openly gay doll. Bob was created by former advertising executive Harvey Rosenberg and marketed through his company, Gizmo Development. Bob stood 13 inches tall and came wearing a flannel shirt, tight jeans and cowboy boots with one ear pierced. He was sold in a box designed to look like a closet, and that proudly explained what “coming out of the closet” meant: "Hi boys, girls and grownups, I’m Gay Bob, the world’s first gay doll. I bet you are wondering why I come packed in a closet. ‘Coming out of the closet’ is an expression which means that you admit the truth about yourself and are no longer ashamed of what you are..." Needless to say, Gay Bob is a gay icon.

Rites of Spring was an American punk rock band from Washington, D.C., formed in late 1983. Along with Embrace, and Beefeater, they were one of the mainstay acts of the 1985 Revolution Summer movement which took place within the Washington, D.C. hardcore punk scene. Musically, Rites of Spring increased the frenetic violence and visceral passion of hardcore punk while simultaneously experimenting with its compositional rules. Lyrically, they also shifted hardcore into intensely personal realms and, in doing so, are often considered the first emo band, though the band always rejected the label. This iconic design comes from the band's only studio album, a self-titled effort from 1985.

In 1906, Grover 'Cleve' Harrell started what was to become the Yellow Cab Company with horse-drawn carriages in Oklahoma City. Harrell's older brother, A. J. arrived, soon followed by their younger brother Marvin, and the three went into business together. In 1929, the Harrell brothers established Yellow Transit Freight Lines to serve small manufacturers for whom express rates were prohibitive. Eventually the partnership dissolved, and A. J. took control of the freight lines, which he kept small until 1952 when an ownership group bought the freight company. During this time, Yellow pioneered the concept of consolidating small shipments into trailer loads. In 1968, the company name was changed to Yellow Freight System.

By the early 19th century, Mexico's middle class had grown tired of sharing their wealth with Spain, and calls for independence began to grow. The Independence movement was launched by two priests, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, and José María Morelos. These men stood up to Spain with a handful of men freed from Spanish imprisonment in 1810, but grew them to over 100,000 in a matter of days, and their numbers only grew from there as they took back cities from the Spanish. Hidalgo was executed in 1811, and Morelos in 1815, but the movement was only strengthened as a result. On September 28, 1821, the first independent government was named, just over a decade after it began, but was followed by thirty years of great political turmoil.

With a house band and dancers in various states of undress providing entertainment, plus topless waitresses, Club Exotica brought a naughty edge to tiki culture that Angelenos really enjoyed or at least they did for about a decade before the bottom fell out of the tiki scene, and they closed up shop.

In 1970, Stokely-Van Camp produced a thirst quenching chewing gum, marketing it as Gatorgum. The gum was manufactured by Fleer (the baseball card people), and was available in both lemon-lime and orange flavors. The gum was invented with the intention of offering 'hydration enhancement' and the 'prevention of dry mouth,' though there is no information that the gum did either of these things. Regardless, people loved the gum, though its popularity began waning in the late '70s, though lucky for Gatorgum fans, an ill timed long term manufacturing contract ensured the gum was still made until the late '80s. Like clockwork, the gum was discontinued when the contract expired in 1989, and slowly began disappearing from store shelves.

Broken Bones was a hardcore punk band founded in 1983 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Broken Bone's sound is best described as punk at its most primal, the crashing roar of wild youth taken to limits other bands never dreamed of. When the band formed in the early '80s, punk was roaring, and when Broken Bones came along, everyone stood and took notice. Broken Bones reach went well beyond the hardcore scene, finding a strong fan base among metal fans for the sheer ferocity of their attack.

The Newport Pop Festival, was as held at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California, on the weekend of August 3–4, 1968. It was the first music concert ever to have more than 100,000 paid attendees. Its sequel, billed as Newport 69, was held in Northridge, California, on June 20–22, 1969, and had a total attendance estimated at 200,000. The event's advance ticket sales were triple of what was expected, and it became evident that no area inside the fairgrounds could hold even 25,000 people, let alone the near 100,000 now predicted. In the last three days before the show, it was moved to one of the parking lots of the fairgrounds. Fencing, staging, sanitation, and food concessions had to be organized within just three days.

Twins of Evil (also known as Twins of Dracula) is a 1971 British horror film starring real-life identical twins, Mary and Madeleine Collinson. It is the third (and final) film in the Karnstein Trilogy, based on the 1872 novella Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. The film has the least resemblance to the novella and adds a witch hunting theme to the vampire story. Much of the interest of the film revolves around the contrasting evil and good natures of two beautiful sisters, Frieda and Maria. Unlike the previous two entries in the series, this film contains only a brief lesbian element. The film was released in the U.S. as a double feature with Hands of the Ripper.

A roller disco is a discotheque or skating rink where all the dancers wear roller skates. The music played is modern and easily danceable, historically disco but in the post disco era, almost any form of dance, pop or rock music was used. The roller disco concept originated as a fad in the '70s when the disco craze was at its height, peaking around 1980 and inspiring several roller-disco magazines. Roller disco experienced a mild revival in the early 2000s, where certain clubs began hosting roller disco nights. Just like with in other discos, special effects such as fog machines and flashing traffic lights are often used.
