ESA's new space exploration mission JUICE - Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer, is scheduled to be launched on 13 April 2023!
It will reach the Jupiter system in 2031 and observe Jupiter and its three largest moons Callisto, Europa and Ganymede to investigate the habitability of their icy sub-surface oceans.
To celebrate, I made a new design in my series of re-imagined space mission patches. It shows Jupiter and the three of the Galilean moons that will be studied, but in a stylised and abstract design.

NASA's Mars rover Perseverance landed on the Red Planet 18 February 2021. With it it carried Ingenuity, the first helicopter to visit another planet. The landing parachute became famous for its hidden message composed in binary code using the colour fields of the fabric, conveying the message "Dare mighty things", the JPL (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory) motto, taken from a Theodore Roosevelt speech.
A "mission patch" for the "WEST AREA COMPUTING UNIT", celebrating the women of colour working as computers (the original, human kind) calculating orbits for the engineers at NASA's predecessor NACA in the 40's and 50's. They were portrayed in the book and film Hidden Figures. The smoke from the rocket is made up of actual equations from one of computer Katherine Johnson's technical reports. The rocket is the Atlas LV-3B carrying the Mercury capsule Friendship 7 with John Glenn in 1962.

Who else loves autumn? For a long time the general opinion seemed to be that most people preferred spring but it turns out that autumn is many people's favourite season. And they're of course right!
