Experimenting with inking textures and density to create this effect.

In the 19th century “cricket” and “crickets” were in used as euphemisms for using Christ as an interjection. The addition of “Jiminy” (a variation of “Gemini”), sometimes shortened to “Jimmy” created the expressions “Jiminy Cricket!” or “Jimmy Crickets!” as less blasphemous alternatives to exclaiming “Jesus Christ!” So why does Mr. Walt own the name Jiminy Cricket, it was in common use before he appropriated it.

I’ve often wondered what went on in Pollocks head. How did he make the break to abstract expressionism. What was he thinking at the time, was it the incessant chirping of the insects that finally drove him over the precipice and freed him to explore the space?

I heard a speaker use this phrase years ago, it resonated with me. I may forget a lot of things but this phrase has always stuck in my mind. “Ubuntu is a philosophy that considers the success of the group above that of the individual.” Stephen Lundin The word ‘Ubuntu‘ originates from one of the Bantu dialects of Africa, and is pronounced as uu-Boon-too. It is a traditional African philosophy that offers us an understanding of ourselves in relation with the world.

I'm always looking for interesting textures and patterns found in nature to shoot. PhotoShop gives me the ability to combine traditional art with digital images and the tools to experiment endlessly. This image made me think of a trippy psychedelic image that could have come out of the 60's. Consequently, I believe that Mona may have inadvertanly ingested some very magical berries. rk

This is peace and solitude. Nothing else exists except you and your buddy, alone in nature, exploring, bonding. I was experimenting with different techniques to create dark and light values of the sky and foreground. I wanted to art to tell the story and let the title "I WALK THE DOG" become a subtle part of the background.
Description: Driving down highway 283 through the Big Basin in South West Kansas I saw an ancient windmill just past Saint Jacobs Well. I climbed halfway up and got an amazing shot. Luckily the windmill didn’t collapse. I’m sure it’s no longer there. It’s probably a rotting pile of lumber and rusting tin now. I was captivated by the shadows of the wood framework and metal fins of the windmill. The light highlighted the weathered grain of the wood. The deep grooves in the grain reminds me of how the wrinkled, leathery hands of an old farmer have many stories to tell but most likely no one will ever hear them. I’ve always wondered how many scorching Kansas summers and freezing, windy winters this windmill had endured.

They were so called because the first three aircraft of the series were built entirely in secrecy. In total, five Type Rs were built and flown by some of the most notable flyers of the day, including Jimmy Doolittle, Doug Davis, Frank Hawks, and Pancho Barnes, not only in races but also at air shows across the United States, and most notably, by Hawks in Europe.

During the early 1930s, the Gee Bees were among the fastest planes of the day and won several prestigious National Air Races, but several pilots also lost their lives while flying them. To date, the Gee Bees have remained very controversial. While some people have labeled them “killer planes” and “the most dangerous aircraft ever built,” others admire their engineering and claim that they were just too aerodynamically advanced for the pilots of the day to handle.

It was the chief fighter aircraft in American service during the early 1930s but also used internationally. By the late 1930s it was replaced in front-line duty by newer designs, but it was still used for training into the early 1940s. Many variants of the aircraft were developed. In the 21st century a handful of surviving air frames are on display in museums.

Designed and built by Boeing, the prototype first flew in 1932, and was still in use with the U.S. Army Air Corps as late as 1941 in the Philippines. The open cockpit, fixed landing gear, externally braced wing design was the last such design procured by the USAAC as a fighter. The “Peashooter”, as it was known by service pilots, was faster than previous American combat aircraft.

Beech, formerly head of the aircraft manufacturer Travel Air set up a new company, Beech Aircraft Corporation, based in Wichita, Kansas. Beech took the airplane designer Ted A. Wells from Curtiss-Wright, and the first project of the new company was the Model 17, a fast biplane with an enclosed cabin designed to meet the needs of business executives.The Beechcraft Model 17, popularly known as the “Staggerwing”, was first flown on November 4, 1932. It was used as an executive aircraft, much as the private jet is now.
