In addition to being associated with funerals, memorials and death, the black ribbon also represents anti-terrorism campaigns, gang prevention, BRAVE —Black Ribbon Against Violence, insomnia, and skin cancer.

The light blue ribbon is worn in support of Addison’s Disease, Graves’ Disease, thyroid disease, men’s health, prostate cancer, and women’s pro-choice causes.

Teal awareness ribbons support sexual violence prevention, child sexual abuse and assault campaigns, military sexual assault, rape survival, ovarian cancer, PTSD, panic disorders, and social anxiety.

The green ribbon brings awareness to over 45 causes, including: major depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, organ donors, reproductive rights, environmental concerns and global warming, genocide, and missing children.

The yellow ribbon is associated with military service, MIA/POWs, missing persons, suicide prevention, and refugees.

The pink awareness ribbon worn as the universal symbol for breast cancer awareness, women’s health, and nursing mothers.

Particularly associated with HIV/AIDs awareness, the red ribbon also supports campaigns on substance abuse, drug addiction and alcohol dependence, Mothers Against Drunk Driving—MADD, cardiovascular disease, burn victims, courage and inspiration.

The blue awareness ribbon is used to promote over 100 causes, including: anti-bullying, child abuse, crime victims’ rights, human trafficking, equal access to education, freedom of the press and free speech.

The orange ribbon supports dozens of causes including ADHD, COPD, Multiple Sclerosis, gun violence prevention, asylum seekers, racial tolerance, human rights, equality and liberty, world hunger, poverty and malnutrition.

The purple ribbon is worn in support of over 70 causes, including: Alzheimer Disease and dementia, Epilepsy, Bulimia, homelessness, domestic violence, International Women’s Day, animal protection and welfare, religious tolerance.

Julius Caesar’s famous quip— vini, vidi, vici, I came, I saw, I conquered—on his conquest of Gaul. His bold, decisive leadership in that campaign reenforced his reputation as a strong leader, which would lead to his campaign against and victory over the Roman Republic. The expression is used to this day to signal unhesitating decision-making and action.
