Description: The third Mimeographic History design is "The Transexual Menace" T-Shirt (https://www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/politics/a35980637/history-of-feminist-t-shirt/) The Transexual Menace was the first direct action group of its kind in the US and amongst other things would hold demonstrations outside of trials for anti-trans crimes. The shirt was designed by Ricki Wilchins and Montine Jordan to emulate the style of the Rocky Horror Picture Show logo. In her book TRANS/gressive Wilkins said "f you passed, you were safe. But pulling on the T-shirt screwed all of that forever" Profits help us keep making Totally Trans: Searching for the Trans Canon and a portion will be donated back to trans community causes.

Description: In 1959 a group of queer and trans patrons were hanging out at Cooper Do-Nuts (a popular spot between two Los Angeles gay bars), when it was police came to harass and arrest patrons for wearing clothes that were not in line with their assigned gender. As the people were being put in police cars the crowd began to throw coffee, donuts, and garbage at the police sparking the first recorded queer uprising in the United States. This is an original design based on the Cooper Do-Nuts sign and we are happy to include it in our Mimeographic History line of designs. We are calling this project Mimeographic History This design is based on a button made my the Canadian Union of Public Employees 3903 in Toronto in the early 2000s (https://www.digitaltransgenderarchive.net/files/t722h902s). It shows how trans issues intersect with labor and healthcare issues, but it also shows how collective action by unions can be used to protect marginalized communities, which is awesome. Description: The zine Transvestia was created by the Totally Trans Podcast's problematic fave Virginia Prince in 1960. While the publication created community for some trans people (predominantly white upper class trans people) it also presented a pretty limited view of what trans people and trans liberation should look like. We are including it in our Mimeographic History series because despite having a complicated cultural impact and legacy it is an important part of the history of trans art, self-publishing, and zine culture. Description: This Mimeographic History design is a play on the "Enjoy AZT" design by Vincent Gagliostro and Avram Finkelstein, 1989 (https://collection.cooperhewitt.org/objects/18645575/) AZT was criticized for being cost-prohibitive, toxic, and ineffective. This design drew attention to Burroughs Wellcome profiting off of AZT as a product while people died. Modern drugs for PrEP including Truvada and Descovy can protect people from contracting HIV which is amazing, but Gillead Sciences has maintained a monopoly on the drug, profiting massively while limiting access and availability of the life-saving medication.
