This image, originally captured on film, is of the entrance to what I believe are lodgings for the Military Knights of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the world's oldest chivalric order. Above the doorway is the emblem of the order, which, with the exception to the Victoria Cross and George Cross, is the most senior order of knighthood in the British honours system. Membership is extremely limited: the monarch (Queen), the Prince of Wales, and twenty-four members appointed by the monarch. It seems that the order dates back to when Edward III established it in 1348. This is a photo I took at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. There was so much movement, it felt like everything was in perpetual motion! I slowed it down a bit by changing everything but the one horse and rider into black and white, and blurring the background.

Chair bodging is a craft particularly associated with the beechwoods covering the Chiltern Hills. The bodger here is working at his pole lathe, often referred to as a High Wycombe lathe, turning out chair legs for the furniture industry. Bodgers would usually buy stands of trees and set up their workplace among them. The Chilterns are known for their typical furniture with turned wooden legs and stretchers - such as the Windsor chair.

The Windsor Town Bridge crossing the River Thames, linking Windsor and Eton in Berkshire. River transport was always important here particularly with the royal palace at Windsor. There has been a bridge on this site since at least the 12thC when records show tolls of the equivalent of £4.33 being paid to a landowner, Osbert de Bray, for boats passing beneath the bridge. The Totem Pole was a gift from the people of Canada to HM The Queen in June, 1958. The Pole is 100 feet high, one foot for every year, and marks the centenary of British Columbia, which was named by Queen Victoria and proclaimed a Crown Colony on November 19th 1858. It is now the Pacific Coast Province of Canada. Totem Poles are a characteristic feature of Pacific coast Indian Art. They have no religious significance, being more akin to a Family Tree, embodying legendary tribal history.
